Lakland Owners Group #69

My Skyline 55-64 has been getting a real work out of late. I'm involved with two bands from completely opposite ends of the spectrum; one a country band and the other a proggy rock / fusion project. This bass works perfectly in both! I'd still like to get a B/W/B pickguard to replace the original..

I assume you are playing it "differently" in each band....GREAT to hear it is versatile enough for both....assume neo-punch pickup?

So this is probably a little early, but I am the high bidder on an ebay auction for a Skyline 55 AJ. I don't see a lot about these basses around- mostly looking for a bar/jam bass I can not worry about as much as my 55-94 and Modulus Q5. I am betting the neck and body are good (it IS a lakland), more interested in the electronics- it's the same pre as the 55-01, right? That seems to be poorly regarded. How about the pickups? Per the Lakland site, they are Lakland Vintage J Single Coils, same as the DJ's?

Thanks LOG'ers!

Thanks. I was debating on a Sadowsky, but of course that adds $$$ to my "cheap" bar bass. I would like the ability to bypass the pre though (like on the LH3).
I dropped an Aguilar OBP3 in mine (shouldn't have sold shouldn't have sold stupid stupid dangit) wired vol vol M B/T with the mid tied off at 500 and it freaking SCREAMED.

I bought a set of Long Scale Elixers for my 55-01... but they were too short if I ran them through the body which is how I want to run them.. .. so now I am in a quandry... I have a pricey set of brand new strings I can't use.. and I need a set of strings for my 55-01.. I can probably just return the Elixers as I never even cut them or wound them... It was prety obvious when lining them up that they were too short.. So I imagine I am looking at Extra Long Scale strings.. I'd like to know what folks are putting on their Skylines too..

FWIW after doing a little looking I see some folks arew using DRs .. so I may just try those since I have BBs on my Brute.. and Pure Blues on my Heir ....
