Lakland Owners Group #69

Went in for an audition today. It was with an "experimental / prog / fusion / metal" band. Interesting sound. Lots of odd time signatures, riff-based, mainly instrumental. Guitarist and drummer who've been playing together for years so I was basically going in cold. It went great! Took along my Markbass rig (CMD 151P with the New York 151 extension cab), my Lakland 55-64 and my Ibanez SR5BBLTD. Never even plugged the Ibby in. The full, fat tone from the Lakland through the Markbass rig filled the sonic gaps perfectly! Got the gig!! Really excited about it!

If it works the same way as the lh3 you can go passive with a dead battery

Thanks. It's not a deal breaker really, I just thought I'd ask in case something has changed over the past few years.
Lakland say you you bypass the active tone, which could be different from bypassing the preamp altogether.

wow, yes, it looks nicer in your photos. Ive just seen a YT video and thought it looked a bit light, but yours make it look better.

Hmmm, not sure what to do (no, one of each is not an option lol).
As per my previous question, will this run with a dead or no battery? Im not worried about no battery but i do get paranoid sometimes about my bass dying on me during a set.

None of my xx-01 series with the factory supplied preamp run with a DEAD battery or WITHOUT a battery.
They do not have a true eq bypass in them. I have two 55-01's, one with a Sadowsky pre and one with a Bartolini
NTMB 5.4 A/P. They both work with a dead or no battery in passive mode. I use the Sadowsky pre in passive mode almost all of the time, it just kills.

Ive never been in a position to take two basses to gigs, and although ive had active basses in the past ive always felt more at ease with passive basses.

Both my current, cheap, active basses work without a battery and i do feel this helps keep my mind at ease. I have a habit of leaving the bass connected during sets. Ive only had one battery die on me in a bass at a gig, and luckily it was one of these.
When i changed the pre in my old 55-01 i had a NTMB put in, but even this wouldn't work without a battery. I assume there are different types?

So maybe ill just put a Sadowsky pre in then. I had one of thire outboard preamp's a few years ago and loved the tone.

Here's a not so great picture of my newly acquired Lakland USA Bob Glaub PJ. I've got it strung with Sadowsky Black Label flats and I'm using it primarily on a traditional country gig, though I've also used it with a large R&B band and a rock band and have been really happy how well it's working out. Is it still possible to get a number assigned? Thanks.

After I get a 44-51, that's my next grab. Nice bass.

Awesome looking bass!

Also... The black labels seem to be made for p basses! I have a set on one of my PJs and love it!

LOGger number headed your way tomorrow... All of my data is on my laptop.
