My DJ4 now sports a DJ Retro. What a great sounding preamp, very well voiced. Last week I removed the DR Black Beauties and put on the DR Marcus Miller set. Wow, what a difference. The combination of bass, preamp and strings really rocks!

always liked the DR Marcus Millers. Which are now being phased out as his name now is on a different manufacturer (Dunlop, I think?).
DR still makes Fat Beams though, just without the Marcus Miller name. They are also a favorite of mine.

Count me in the not a fan category of FatBeams and the like... way WAY to flexible in feel for me... I like stiff as possible... Nickel and Stainless LoRiders are all I use...
Stiffest strings I ever played were EB Cobalts, might need to try some LoRiders some time. I'm mostly playing balanced sets right now, but you never know

I typically use Sunbeams. I have a set of Fat Beams but haven't used them yet.
Um... I'm about a 4 cup a day drinker... 6 or 8 on rehearsal nights. Little onedertone is doing just fine.

I had a DJ Retro in my DJ (when I had it) and felt the same way....it really fit well with the rest of the bass sound....
Yup...Markus Millers will do that...
I love those string as well....wonder if DR will make something "similar"...they sound EXCELLENT on my 55-07!

I've owned this bass longer than any of my other adopted bass-children...though I love them all equally
Took this one out this morning for a church gig and remembered the comfort that comes from playing a bass that's seen hundreds upon hundreds of gigs, the entire U.S. of A, and years of personal technique development.

After a very long absence from Lakalnd I'm thinking of coming back with another 55-01.
I quite fancy the Saltered version but will probably go for natural/maple as it's easier to get.
Although I should know this I wanted to ask if the bass will work with a dead battery, or no battery?
I know my last one wouldn't, as IIR only active tone could be bypassed and not the whole pre amp. Is this still the case? Both my cheaper active basses can, and I feel safer with this as I have had a bass die on me at a gig.
