So, I ended up returning my DJ4. I ended up realizing that I prefer a bigger neck. All isn't lost, however. I ended up buying a Skyline 55-01. Still in the club

no, in fact matte finishes hide fingerprints, much moreso than gloss.

One thing I've noticed about the neck on my 55-01, it feels like there's no finish on it. It's the closest to an oil finished neck that I've found, and I absolutely love it. I was also able to get the action adjusted nice and low without any undue buzzing, the fret ends are dressed nicely, and the 35" scale doesn't feel like I'm stretching, which I was a little worried about. The weight is (unofficially) around 9lbs, and it hangs nicely on a 3" leather strap. The pots all have a nice solid feel when turning, with the exception of the volume pot. It turns with far less resistance, but it functions fine, and the passive pull function works like it's supposed to. The active electronics sound nice, and offer a wide range of tones.
As @Holdsg mentioned, fingerprints are from an issue, even on my black basses. I would think a lighter saturated color would be even better at hiding them. Same thing goes for any potential shiny spots from wear - which I have yet to see on any of the basses I've had Pat refinish. Pat also finishes with a clear matte coat over the color so it's quite durable and easily wipes clean with a microfiber cloth.
Yet another advantage - no polishing, just wipe down after each use and you're good to go. If you find you have any dirt/build up just wipe lightly with a towel that is slightly damp, then dry - don't scrub or you will create a shiny spot.
The one downside if you hate mojo. If you get a scratch, there's no buffing it out or hiding it via polish and wax, it's there for good. Again, these will be mitigated by a lighter color - black shows everything
Very nice. The volume knob on the 5501 is a very shoddy knob. The other knobs are of decent quality. I'd go ahead and upgrade the volume knob if you are handy with a soldering iron.
The 5501 is a fantastic platform for missing. A simple swap of the pre is a world of difference. If you get to that, that is.

Very different...I was just playing my LOG bass with the Hanson Vintage pickups (sounds ALOT like Fralins to my ears)...
I have a Lakland PJ with Nordys (got it prior to the Neo punch being released)...they sound more modern but not as Hi fi or modern as the Neo punch IMHO....
Used 45-125 black beauties on my 55-01 for a long time, they work great!

So I picked this 55-01 up earlier this year. It's my first lakland and boy am I happy with this bass. It's so comfortable it's like relaxing on your favorite couch. Even with the stock electronics I get a nice full and deep tone that has a ton of clarity. This bass has actually made a turning point in my playing and in my musical life.
I must admit though that I got his off of Craigslist for a cool $600 in brand new condition so that made it extra sweet.
