Just to follow up on this--yes, they make their own pickups except for the -01 models, which use Bart MK-1s. They switched over in the 2006-08 period, first on the 02/94 models, then the J basses, and finally the P basses.

They can also be bought separately, and Lakland offers a few variations; Hanson is the maiden name of the mother of the Pirrucellos (I may have misspelled that), who run Lakland: Welcome to Hanson Pickups!

Lakland was here at Sweetwater yesterday and John Pirruccello told us about a couple "new" models...

4 and 5 strings J-Sonic Basses. They're essentially the 44-60/55-60 J-style basses with Chi-Sonic pickups in the Jazz bass position, AKA the bass I've been rock'n since 2011...
One color for now, in Shoreline Gold, Rosewood Fingerboard. Looks awesome!

Also the 44-64Custom PJ bass now will come in White as well...

Maybe this is old news to you fellas.

I can't say enough good things about the J CS set up! And shoreline gold is a GREAT color... Especially ( IMHO) with a rosewood board.

And a white PJ custom to boot!???

Practicing some songs for my country band tonight. Using my 55-60. Would love to have left it passive but damn, these EMGs sound so good!

Yeah, no stack-knobs. My bass is actually a skyline but when my bass was going through finishing at Lakland, John had the crew install the US stack-knobs in my bass. Pretty sweet!

Yeah, no stack-knobs. My bass is actually a skyline but when my bass was going through finishing at Lakland, John had the crew install the US stack-knobs in my bass. Pretty sweet!

Yeah, I owned a JO skyline a number of years ago that I bought used from Guitar Center and it had the stack knob, I was told it came like that from the factory!

It's officially a sickness, although I swear that I'm done. I like the idea of picking up whatever "flavor" I feel like at the moment and having the same neck profile (that I love). I bought the 55-02 that already had T-I flats on it, liked them so much that I put T-I flats on the "P" bass this evening. The 55-01 has Lakland LH3Dual Coil Soapbar Humbuckers and Audere pre. I'll keep it this way a while but may try it later on with some Nordstrand big singles that I had previously purchased. I'll keep rounds on this one. I'm happy with how they play, feel, and look, a happy camper here.

love that refin'd LOG bass! cool color and the blocks really stand out!

Chi sonics are passive pickups, although some folks have been known to put them thru an onboard pre-amp.

With Chi's, you don't need no stinkin pre-amp

I put a nordstrand three band in my Lakland hollowbody with chi sonics and it adds a lot. Really sounds good.

As far as the hobo is concerned, it made the nodrstrand pre made a HUGE difference for the better!
