NBD: Skyline 44-64 Custom. This is my 6th Lakland, and my favorite. Lakland necks are always great, always very comfortable, but this one is perfect. I had a JO4 Skyline so I knew I would like the J neck, but I think this one is even better. It sounds great, looks great, and is completely balanced (very important to me). I'm surprised it came with D'Addario SS from the factory, I thought they all had Lakland strings on them. As soon as they come in I'll put my preferred DR Sunbeams on it.

I used this at practice for the first time today. I love the way it feels, but I'm not completely happy with the sound. I play in a soul band, and I usually keep the tone about 50%, but turning down the tone knob cuts so much mids it is unusable for me. Does anyone know what value capacitor they use in the tone circuit? And a good value to use to only cut highs and no mids? Anyone else have this problem?
My Fender MIA and Squier Matt Freeman both sound much better than this bass. I may get a Fender CS pickup for it.

Any idea on the pickup? most likely a Neopunch....if you like more of Fralin sound...get a Hanson vintage. I have them in 2 of my Laklands and love them....

Initially they were supposed to be Inca gold....BUT when they came, the prototypes were more "Aztec Gold" which is very copper colored (I know they look orange....but they look more coppery/gold in person...really cool in person). JP and the guys liked the color so much they ordered the first order in the same color.
The ChiSonics on these will be made in the US and shipped to Indonesia for installation.
The Fit and finish on these is excellent....no time to try them out though...had to run to get on a (business) conference call....business always ruins da fun!

I have the same bass. I swapped my NeoPunch for a Duncan SPB-1 for the exact same reason and I'm totally happy. It's MoTown/Stax all the way now. Taking the tone to about 50% has that vibe I think you may want. I have an Aguilar AG-4P in a '64 clone. It has a bit more in the mids and a bit more sizzle in the highs than the Duncan, but both sound great with the tone rolled off. The Duncan is a bit darker, but not much. Either are fantastic.

After hearing clips of the EMG Geezer I decided to go with it. In the mean time I'm using TI flats - the muted highs, and low/low mids of them balance out the thin trebly pickup.
This is the first bass I've ever found that sounded terrible with DR Sunbeams. But it should be good with the Geezer.

Speaking of Geezers.....Here's my two Laklands.
I'm still feeling her out, but so far, not enthralled with the stock strings on the HollowBody 30 (not even sure what they are) Any suggestions from those of you in the know?? Thanks in advance!
