Do you know if Lakland early models had slotted truss rod nut, in stead of that allen 5/32" hex nut? Not sure about the right terminology here, but with slotted nut I mean a one like in early Fenders.
I am asking because I am about to buy a 55-94 DLX '99 which has a slotted nut there. I am getting bit worried if and how the truss rod was reworked, and we a planning to visit a local luthier tomorrow with the seller, but would also like to know if the nut can be original or not.

My 98' 494 has a slotted nut. I'm not sure if they used the same nut on the 5594's though. However, with that being said.....so long as the truss rod actually works, I wouldn't get too worked up over the nut being original or after market. This just means someone actually took care of their instrument! They had enough foresight to realize their nut was wearing out and needed to be replaced. Or perhaps, their nut was fine but they preferred a slotted style instead. If the truss rod was replaced, you could tell by (1) a chuck of the heel would have been cut out on the backside of the neck where it mates against the body to gain access in order to remove and replace the rod. If you see a "surgery" scar were a chunk of wood was cut out and replaced on the backside if the heel, the rod has been replaced. (2) the other way to replace a rod is to strip off the finger board in order to gain access to the rod. If the finger board appears to be non-original, then the perhaps the rod was replaced. Obviously, this is hard to tell as a finger board replacement can look original if done by a high level luthier. But even if the rod has been replaced, I wouldn't sweat it too much. That just means you shouldn't have to worry about truss rod issues for an extremely looooooooong time. Enjoy the bass.
I wonder what year they switched from slotted to internal. Like I mentioned in my previous post, my 98' 494 has a slotted nut. My 02' 5594 has an internal.
Hard to say, I have an early BG - 2001 with the slotted nut. I have a '97 with the hex. seems random.....
My '98 4-94 has the slotted nut as well. I may switch it out for a hex if the neck ever needs to come off. Less pia with an allen tool, imo.
