Been busy traveling.... And yesterday spent most of the day on the outside lights etc..... Forgot that most lights failed to work at the end of last year and we were going to get new stuff this year!
That took a bit of extra time...
Just finished the drilling of holes for new wall hangers.. what a cool room decoration, and I promised my wife I am capable to change its look on a regular basis

Question for Lakland owners. I’m thinking about getting my first US Lakland 55-94 and have my eye on this Buckeye Beauty. How are they compared to other great basses mike Roscoe, Warrior and other boutique builds? How is the B string and overall build and tone?
My first Lakland has officially landed!! I've still got to get her home, tuned up and plugged in etc, but I'm blown away by my initial impressions!!
The tuners appear to be the Hipshot 'Vintage' instead of the 'Ultralight'. Not all that familiar with the different levels of Laklands, so my questions is do those tuners make this a 44-64 'Vintage' model instead of the 'Classic' model that seems to come with the UL's?

I've owned all 3 brands. Both Roscoe and Warrior make great instruments in their own right. Lakland has, hands down, the best necks, and there are numerous reports of sound guys absolutely loving the tone of the X-94 line. For what it's worth, I still have 2 Laklands (A Jazz and a Hollowbody) and 1 Warrior. If Lakland made a single-cut 55-94 with an exotic top, I'd probably sell my Warrior for whatever Lakland would call that.
On the P-models, they use the vintage tuners due to the long stem of the tuner as well as the vintage look of the gearing and plate is what I was told by Leo when they made my 44-64. For custom builds, they can swap to ultralites, but recommend the vintage.
Yes, that’s a vintage model, and a nice one at that. Great flame on the headstock and neck.
I also think the classic series have distinctive serial numbers (which begin with 44###) but of course Sweetwater is out of them, so I can’t double check.
I bought one of these Exotic top 55-94s from Sweetwater last January. I've owned Smith, MTD, Alembic, Lull, Benavente, played a few Roscoes and a couple of Warriors, Zons, and Pedulla. At this level, all of these basses are pretty dang good. It really comes down to personal preference. Like stated above, the Lakland neck is just superb! There is something about it. The B string is as good as any. YMMV. The 55-94 is a very versatile platform. Currently, I own 3 55-94s and the build quality of all of them is exceptional. If you get one, I can't imagine you would be disappointed. They are great basses!

B string? Imho.... The best in the biz.
Versatility? Extreme due to the pickup and preamp combo possibilities...

I've been playing around Laklands for 12-15 years or so now... finally got my hands on a US 55-94 exotic top (see earlier post in this thread) a few weeks ago. I've worked in a bass speciality shop that was a dealer for Tobias, Roscoe, Modulus, Lakland, Zon, Elrick, Spector, and had Pedulla, Warrior, Smith, Benevete, Fodera, and others on the wall from time to time. Hands down I'll pick up a Lakland over those any day of the week. The necks are, as others have said are special as are the electronics... but what really does it for me is the versatility in tone and in the look of the instrument. It's modern and high end without being... well... nerdy. It just fits in everywhere. Even the -94 series with exotic tops... I can see it banging out 12 bar blues in a biker bar or on the stage at a fusion gig... I can't say that for other boutique brands.
I omit Lull and Sadowsky from the list above because I think they and Lakland fit the "working boutique" category, but even then I'd still pick the Lakland... but now we're talking religion...

I recently got a Skyline 55-64 PJ to go with my USA 55-94. I've been having a lot of fun with it and have been gradually making adjustments for the last couple of days as the action was kind of high when it arrived. It currently has D'Addario Chromes Flats and I have been contemplating installing a set of TI flats that were on my 55-94 or a set of NYXL's I picked up at bass player live.

Was unable to resist picking up this gorgeous 2002 4402 that I just can't seem to stop playing. Some folks have said there was extra mojo in the first two years of Skylines and I'm definitely feeling it on this one. A very balanced tone a notch above my 04 and 15 4402's that I owned previously with a super comfortable neck and the whole Bart thing going on. Although I've already got a club number, this baby as earned her own. Purchased from Midtown Music in Santa Cruz, I wish I could thank the owner for taking such good care of her. Only minor issue was a broken battery compartment door and with a little cleanup its just outstanding! I'm guessing the previous owner removed the "Skyline" part of the logo from the headstock along with the made in Korea, but I don't know why. Didn't matter to me, but does that affect its value? Of course I'd never sell this gem, but just wondering.
