I've been looking at Lakland for a while now but I've never been able to get my hands on one. Advertised as a Lakland American made 44-94 Dual J Bass Guitar for about $2000 all said and done. But I have some questions before I pull the trigger for some experienced Lakland players. Isn't the 44-94 usually fitted with an MM pickup? I'm looking for a dual single coil tone, so this set up and look is perfectly fine with me, I'm just a bit worried if it's giving some misinformation. Also just opinions overall would be greatly appreciated! I've been playing for years and I'm finally ready to upgrade from my $200 Epiphone bass so this is a pretty exciting find for me.

That’s actually a 44 dual j - they used to be available in LPB. Part of the “USA Classic series” - made in USA, quater sawn maple neck with graphite reinforcement, hipshot licensed tuners, regular maple fretboard (not birdseye) with “black dots” (not ebony like the USA series).

Yes sadly kopio is no longer in the club. But I bought his 55-01 after much deliberation! It really should have been a no brainer, as it has USA Bart pickups and NTMB preamp installed and I know how good a 55-01 is with those electronics upgrade because I had the EXACT same thing a couple of years ago. And that's why I had initally decided against buying it, as I didn't want the exact same thing again. I really wanted a 55-02, or a stock 55-01 that I could modify because I've already got an MM pickup and a preamp ready to install. But in the end I couldn't pass this one up for the price. I still may install the MM pickup in it, but it sounds so dang good as is that I might not bother. A paint job may happen someday though, as I want something that makes it unique.
It makes a great mate to my 44-02!
A US Bart loaded 55-01 is a special beast. Like maple syrup on pancakes, thick and sweet. I had a Lakland spec NTMB from an old 54-94 in the 55-01 that I just swapped for the standard US NTMB and love it. The standard US NTMB has more highs, which I prefer. The Lakland spec NTMB as well as a couple of Lakland Pickguards will be in the classifieds soon.
The Audere preamp I put in mine also works well with USA Barts. I don't think there's a bad sound in it!
Hey all- curious, what do the current US cases look like? They used to be considerably different than the Skyline cases... my 55-94 came with a case that is fine, but not as nice as I remember, and appears to be the same as the skyline case you can buy from Sweetwater Lakland Skyline Hardshell Bass Case

My recent purchase direct from Lakland looked like that. Acceptable but not the high quality of the bass itself.
