I’m been lurking this thread now that I’m waiting for my skyline 5560 to arrive and I’m curious, those MM pickups have a coil selector - do they sound like a traditional jazz bass in either of the two positions?
I’m happy with my purchase, I’m just curious since the jazz/mm seems to be Laklands flagship configuration

Ah... What model are you getting?
The 5560 is a jazz style bass....the 5502 or 5594 have the j/mm configuration.
Yes.. They do a " decent" jazz impersonation....

Well I'm back in Lakland Land with this sweet sweet DJ #15 in Burgundy Mist. This was a Cadillac color in the 60's. I got it here a while back but just got a good picture from a gig last week.
Sweet video maybe next time I’m GASing I’ll revisit those basses. They seem to do the jazz thing pretty well.
I ordered the skyline 5560, I’m totally happy with my decision. Im just asking out of pure curiosity!
That's really beautiful and you're quite a fan of the -02 apparently! I love that configuration though my Carlo has the LH pre/pups. Is it safe to say you prefer the Barts to the Hanson?
Also how's the weight? I had a 55-01 that I think was the same year that sounded great, but it was darn heavy.

NBD: My Carlo. Lakland lines but with a little something extra. It's a bit of an odd duck. A quick overview:
-35"Scale
-1.75" nut
-LH pickups/pre
-Birdseye Maple and Jatoba neck with BeM Block inlays
-Ebony Fingerboard
-Hipshot hardware
Basically, with the exception of the black body (though I do like it) it's everything I ever wanted in an active 4 string bass and I just stumbled acoss it (used) in Carl's workshop when having my 55-01 worked on. Wide nut, shallow neck profile, 35" scale, etc and quite lightweight. Also sounds killer, though it's Carl's workmanship that really sets it apart. Sonically it's not much different from any other 4-94 or 44-94, though I think the 35" does change the attack a bit. I sold a few instruments and a good bit of collectible LEGO to buy this and it was completely worth it.
It totally sold me on 35" 4 strings and I used the neck measurements as the model for my 35" Wendler Fretless. I've got another local guy Tim Seisser of "Lowdown Bass" making me a 35" neck (same base measurements again) for my parts Jazz. If the jazz it plays and sounds the way I want it too I'll have Carl convert my Carlo to BEAD.

Was, but I sold my 55-01 after getting the Carlo. It was clear that it wasn't going to get much/any play after that.

I had it in the fireplace room at the Chicago GTG, but it was somehow overshadowed by the FunkSheep's Sadowsky and Tim's LDB's. We'll be doing a GTG again next year and it will definitely be present along with the other two 35", 1.75" 4 stringers.
Absolutely LOVE your Carlo with that 3 piece neck, birdseye headstock, original Lakland knobs (how'd they do that?) and inlays! I've always liked both Barts and Hanson, this one just happened to have the Barts and I immediately noticed less output even with the preamp turned all the way up. I fell in love with that beautiful quilt top and this bass was actually described as having the Lakland / LH3 config, but I saw the Barts in the photos which helped date it a little, but was really surprised when I received that it was an 02 with little wear and very pleasantly surprised at the 8.25 lb weight. Very balanced and pretty easy on the shoulder. My 04 was 7.7 lbs and a little thin on tone compared with this one and the Cherryburst QMT on this one is sooo purdy. Best impulse buy I ever had!

I went to Guitar center yesterday to try a Fender PJ that was on sale and wasn't crazy about how thick the neck was. After trying every bass in the room I switched to the used rack and came across a 44-94 and fell in love. The bass is Natural quilted maple but in terrible condition with a really big chunk out at the bottom where it was definitely dropped. The bass was $1550 I am not sure of the year.
The price seems good for a USA Lakland but the damage really bothers me.
Here is my question: Are the Skyline neck profiles the same as the USA models?
Are the necks anywhere as good on the skylines as the USA models?
Are the necks thin on the Lakland jazz models?
