This is a pretty good price on a US Lakland... i don’t think it’s a “classic” series as it has the stacked controls, full size Hipshot tuners (not the licensed ultralites), and a tort guard.. $1600 as I post this... no affiliation

Well when one door closes another opens! They knocked $300 off this USA 494 now $1499 in Allentown Pa which appears to be a very early model with Barts and showing no battery compartment on back (pre-1997?) and a beautiful birdseye maple board. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Was thinking of picking this up and comparing between the 2003 I just bought and returning the lesser of the 2. Are the really old ones any better or worse? I have never seen the cherryburst in person and am interested to see if I like it or not. The natural I just got wouldn't have been my first choice of colors but is a nice insrument regardless.

On another note- I follow Damien Erskine on FB and the other day he posted something regarding instrument insurance apart from your homeowners policy- I looked into it because I know my HOP won’t get the job done if something bad happened.... anyhoo- I was listing out what all I have after completing an online application and guessing X for everything (all basses, Guitars, amps, misc stuff)... turns out I’ve got that figure just in things with a Lakland logo!
I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing...

Yes, I have separate insurance for all my sound making devices. Homeowners will generally not cover most things. And certainly won't cover you for things stolen from your car, gig, etc. And Since Cali seems to self-combust these days, I view it as money well spent.
Ok big questions for all you Lakland guys and gals. I got a call today from the tech where I brought my 44-94, I had asked him to check it out for any glaring problems before doing a set up and detailing. I was told that the truss rod was super hard to budge and after getting it moving it there is only about a quarter turn left on the rod. I am currently using d'Addario NYXL .45-.100 . Not sure if this is normal but the tech recommended bringing the bass back while I still can before it needs major work. The other cherryburst is still available but looks older and I am not sure if I should just trade the 2 or not.
What would you guys do?

All of our family's musical instruments...jewelry....collectibles and a few other things are on a "personal articles" policy..... Benefit though our carrier is no deductible!
You need to supply a description with serial numbers etc.
The one negative is that this policy does not cover the instrument is it is being used in a gig..... There are specific policies for that.
You can replace the truss rod but that's expensive.
If you can... Play the Cherry burst and see what you think
So sad to hear this, but if it was me and the rod wasn't moving I'd take it back. I'm sure they have a tech and all that, but without having Lakland to work on it not sure I'd want someone else I don't know working on that truss rod.

The tech got the rod freed up but said he was worried there wasn't much adjustment left in the rod, he said if there was a large adjustment needed it wasn't gonna be possible.
I am upset now because I don't think the cherryburst one is in that great of condition.
