My Lakland Story - I'll try to be briefLifelong musician here - been playing the piano since 5 yrs old and bass since I was 15.
I started out with a Fender Telecaster and then a teen appropriate red Travis Bean, both from Manny's. Sold both for an original Steinberger that I toured the world with doing USO shows for 7 yrs. (Got some stories there....) Sold the Steinberger to buy a '69 P bass that I still have. The thing sounds freaking amazing and records well, but my left hand isn't in love with it.
I have a '75 P that I have the exact same issue with. They are both great "tools" but aren't ergonomically practical for me, as far as gigging is concerned. My introduction to Lakland basses was returning a Mesa Strategy amp for from what I remember was a USA 44-14. I didn't know enough about Laklands to even consider Sweetwater's lineup of 44-64's, so I took a flyer on this one.

I really liked the feel of the neck, but I didn't like the active pickups/pickup configuration or the maple board so I sold it - looking for a more "traditional" sound. Then, after becoming a bit more educated about Laklands (thanks TB), I saw Tim Gibson's Bob Glaub for sale in the TB classifieds. It was a 2007(?) with a 1.75" nut. I figured a Lakland version of that nut width would be one I could handle.

It was a GREAT sounding bass, but it was a bit too much for my left hand. Luckily these basses hold their value so turning them around is never an issue. I'm at the point where I love the Lakland necks. I just needed to find the right one. So I sold Tim's and moved on to one with a narrower nut width - which was this one....also a TB purchase.

A 2014 Coral 44-64 with a 1.5" nut. But for some reason the bass just didn't resonate with me. It "felt" perfect, but I wasn't in love with it's "voice". IMHO, a P has to feel right AND sound right because, by definition, you don't have a lot of tonal options. They each sound as they are.
So about a month ago I'm perusing the TB classifieds and I found another Glaub. It was a tad pricey, but I decided to go for it. I met the seller locally and played her in a parking lot. I felt like a high school kid making out in the back seat. The bass felt freaking perfect. The seller was reputable and said everything was original and the deal was made. I sent it to Mo to have him go through it and I got it back from him a few days back. Now every time I pick up this beauty, it becomes a part of me. I haven't properly recorded with it, but I'm really looking forward to that. So - here are some pics of my #1 player

The seller told me he picked it up from AG's estate sale a few years back, and that BG gave it to AG back in the day. If any Lakland experts can confirm/debunk I am all ears. All I know is I'm absolutely smitten. It's just so much fun to play...........absolutely effortless.
It feels like I finally found the perfect P - for me.
I just joined an outfit that plays around 100 or so local shows a year, so this baby's gonna get a workout - and my left hand is OK with it
