Yeah!!! The band insisted saying it would be awesome, lol. They were right. The metal/hard rock bands gave me zero negativity over it... I got to tell it's story several times... it was a blast! ImageUploadedByTalkBass1397279212.774691.jpg

Hey everyone,

I briefly owned a 55 02 last year and parted with it because of scale length. Im looking at 4402 now and was wondering if anyone has thoughts on replacing the pickups with Nordstrands. I find the Lakland pickups a little polite and wouldn't mind opening them up a little.

I also was curious if anyone knows how the Nord MM pickups sound with the coils split. I really want this bass to get the 70's style J bass Marcus Miller sound and this is one of few basses that has the correct spacing. I was thinking of putting a 70s wind Nord J in neck and MM in bridge, which I believe is close to 70's spacing when you have the rear coil selected. Any thoughts?

I also was considering dropping a Sadowsky pre in eventually as well, but the stock pre is pretty good; again maybe not as transparent as the Sadowsky but Im less cure that's necessary for my goals.

I know this adds considerable expense but it still might be more cost effective then some other options that would give me something that can do both 70's j bass and MM style sounds pretty well. I love the Lak neck and overall feel on their 4s.

I think I have mentioned this before, but I used to play a bright Purple Jazz bass through an Orange head and Ampeg 8x10 covered in purple crushed velvet in a pretty serious hardcore / metal band. People love stuff like that, unless they are overcompensating pseudo "tough-guys" that think there is only one color... black. JJ, I would rock the super sparkle bass on just about any gig, so I am with you.

Yeah, It's going to get used regularly for sure :-).
