If you've played both, can I ask how the Dual P sounds compared to the PJ? I have a PJ but never heard or tried the Dual P. But I'm getting a bad case of HAS seeing this one. Lol.

I guess it depends on if you ever solo a bridge J pickup. I don’t care for that sound. I use a bridge J on a PJ to add to the P, keeping the P pup at 100% and the J somewhere between 70 and 100%. On the dual P, the bridge P is usable by itself. But, I still set the two volumes at 100% for neck and 80% for bridge. The end result is much better than a jazz (for me anyways) and more versatile than a PJ.

Thanks for the details. I'm the same on PJ where I find the J alone is weak but like the added harmonics from the J to compliment the P. On a couple songs that need a very brighttone I will solo the MM bridge pickup on the 55-94. But I need to get a fiver with a P pickup because the neck pup on the 55-94s isn't quite a P. And the Dual P looks like a great idea versus PJ seeing as it would be a special order anyway.

Did some playing along to recordings with the two basses. Both sound great along with the tracks. I’m pleasantly surprised with how they both sound!

The 55-02 sounds great as is, with the Solo Bass 55 strings on it. I may try some Slinky Flatwounds on it, but I like the snap it has with Solo Bass 55’s. Great slap tone! I don’t think I need to look further into a pickup/electronics swap. Deoxit cleaned up the volume pot and it sounds killer as-is.

The 55-01 with TI’s and new PJ soapbar pickups sounds killer! I had to raise the J soapbar compared to the P to get the same output, which is to be expected. Looks like the bridge pickup is about 1/8” higher than the neck. That seems like a big difference to me, but so far it sounds good.

It’s my Carlo... built at Lākland by Carl Pedigo. When I asked John Pirrucelli if they’d make a dual P a production model, he said they didn’t need to since a customer can ask for whatever pickup configuration they want.

I’m friends on fb with a guy that got a 25th Anniversary 4-94 with P/J config.

Dear Lakland afficionados i need help ;(
I'm thinking getting a 55-02 Lakland as it was on my wish list for a few years. I got two questions:

1. how does the inside of the battery compartment looks like in Laklands ? Do they have a dedicated battery slot or cable with battery plug (like in Boss Pedals) - i hate the latter
2. are there any straplock brand that fit lakland bass without redrilling / lock picking the original strap hole ? (Dunlops ?)

All of my Laklands have an integrated battery compartment and the 9 volt battery slides in against spring contacts. I expect the 55-02 would be the same.

I've replaced the stock strap pins on all mine with Dunlops with just a screwdriver.
