Quickguards does nice work. When I originally ordered the silver florentine and then decided I wanted red instead, I asked him if I could go ahead and drill the holes with the silver one. He said - absolutely you can. I was skeptical and waited until the red one arrived and sure enough, the holes matched perfectly between the two pickguards. Mind you, this is not like a standard jazz pickguard, this is custom.
I strongly suggest you get a hinge drill bit. It's real easy to drill a screw just a little off-center and it will bug you every time you look at it.

I agree. I've purchased from Mike in the past and have always been happy with his work. I asked him to send me the 55-01 with no holes this time as I'm just gonna attach it with DS tape so I can easily reverse it if I ever sell it.

Went to church today " in person" for the first time in 10(?) Weeks.

Was wierd not to be playing though.

We had to make reservations as services are limited to 90 people.

People were assigned pews and everyone was Social distanced not family... That was a bit wierd as well...

Really glad you like the way the 4-94 sits in the mix!

It is as great great investment!

Yup...IEMs take a bit of getting used to.. But hey a good pair and you won't want to go back!

It came to me as "gigged hard and put up wet" trade. I got the worse of the deal with the condition.
I learned a lot rehabbing this. I had to work the black paint EXTENSIVELY since it looked like a woman with long nails had clawed at the strings. Some of the scratches closest to the pickups wouldn't come out so I went with a pickguard install.
The P.O. states that it "needs a good set up." I learned that this is code for "I think the neck is fragged, but I don't want to tell you that." The neck had a relief bow even with the truss rod fully tight and no strings on it. I could make it playable but I like VERY low action bordering on fret buzz. I built a jig and utilizing some clamps and heat managed to get a resting slight back bow in the neck (no strings or truss tension). I now have a beautiful setup. Super low action with strings and truss rod tension.
Here's the girl now. The pickguard is red florentine from Quickguards. I also have a silver florentine one that I can use.

Yes, the silver looked great, too. But I wanted this bass to be more "in your face" and the silver was a bit more reserved.

DJ's use a curved plate and a Fender Jazz plate won't work. I've have had success with standard plates on a 55-60. Not sure of a JO but think it should be similar to a 55-60 in size.

Ok ok... Guilty....

But like you said... He's a good sport about it!

Now I've got him working on a tough one.

Need to replace the preamp on my Turner Ren 5 fretless and Mr Turner won't respond when I ask him to sell me a new one... His real only response was that the preamp can't be broken... And then... He asked if my tech knew anything about elections.... REALLY?? MR MASTER CARL???

Mind you I wasnt asking Turner to fix it and offered to pay... But he wouldn't quote a price..

Now he isn't responding at all... We are investigating what to replace the preamp with... As you know... Carl is all about how things work together so he is taking time ( lots) to think about it... It's all good because I've got time.

I feel I should clarify......I now remember that I was NOT charged for the BEM upgrade. when I called Leo, about 2 weeks after placing the initial order, to make 2 upgrades (change pups to Chi-sonics and board from RW to BEM), he said that since I had paid the full price up front (5% discount) he'd charge me for the pup upgrade but not the board. So, in the end, the birds eye is a indeed faint, and is officially spec'd, but was not charged. On a related note, with the TI flats on it, this baby is the most warm & lively sounding and playing bass I have had the pleasure of playing!
