I put on new strings, maybe adjust the height on the saddles, and maybe tweak the truss bar 1/4 turn or so.... But that's about it.
He takes more chances and does a better job than me

they played well because he set them up right. That's what he does. Have you figured out he's a perfectionist?
A GTG would be cool even if for a quick bite to eat. Doug I know you travel a lot for your job, as you have mentioned. If you come through here that would be great if timing works out.I think we need a JJ..Max...Doude GTG......

I know what you mean about set up. I need to learn more so I am comfortable doing much more. Need to get out of my comfort zone. Proceed slowly and correctly and things will probably be fine as long as work being attempted has some solid direction behind it based on solid knowledge.He's a set up king!!!

You have a great local resource. Consult with him. That's what you need to do.

Thanks, though it's not fretless. I'm lamenting I'd like it to be as I'm very happy with my other Glaub. This one would be sublime as a fretless. We'll see- I sent an email to Carl.
Played for the first time since the Covid outbreak today, set up at Church has change to IEM's only and no amp/ cabs. Took my Trace Elliott pre amp and my 44-94 bass, rather weird not having sound pushing my pants, but after the service the Pastors Wife (our head of worship) came up to the sound man and wanted to know how he got the sound of the bass, as she has never heard it so good. Have to compliment the 44-94, it has such a presence in the mix, even the soundman came up after practice this morning and said it sounded phenomenal, yes it cost me a lot to buy, but it's times like today I have to say, thank you Lakland, for such a fantastic bass that is beautifully built and silky smooth to play.
Just finished rehabbing a 55-01. It's my second Lakland. It's loaded with Nordstrand split stacks and Audere preamp. Previous owners installed those.
It came to me as "gigged hard and put up wet" trade. I got the worse of the deal with the condition.
I learned a lot rehabbing this. I had to work the black paint EXTENSIVELY since it looked like a woman with long nails had clawed at the strings. Some of the scratches closest to the pickups wouldn't come out so I went with a pickguard install.
The P.O. states that it "needs a good set up." I learned that this is code for "I think the neck is fragged, but I don't want to tell you that." The neck had a relief bow even with the truss rod fully tight and no strings on it. I could make it playable but I like VERY low action bordering on fret buzz. I built a jig and utilizing some clamps and heat managed to get a resting slight back bow in the neck (no strings or truss tension). I now have a beautiful setup. Super low action with strings and truss rod tension.
Here's the girl now. The pickguard is red florentine from Quickguards. I also have a silver florentine one that I can use.

That one was mine a few years ago. I wasn’t the one who giggled it extensively, but I did put in the Nordys and Audere. I don’t remember the neck being that jacked, but I do play with medium/high action, so who knows.

Wait a minute...with all the basses you have sent through Carl you never made him grumble? I think i may have heard a grumble when he mentioned how long it took to wire up 3 Chisonic Humbuckers with coil taps, but dang, he was a good sport!You make Carl grumble???

FYI - Rather than take the time and measure, I dove in to see if the neck from a 2002 MIK 55-01 would fit on a 2010 Indonesia 55-64.
It doesn't. But I do have really nice setups on both basses now!
That looks killer with that guard! I have a white pearloid coming from Quickguards for my 55-01 and a tort for the 55-64. Should be here tomorrow.
