Yes. The 2002 55-63 which they added the Sadowsky VTC Preamp and PUs. I bought/traded in 2018. Plays and feels like butter.
Yeah, they’ll do any pickup layout. But, it wouldn’t have the JS## serial number. So, I suppose it would be called a custom 44? And, I sold mine for engagement ring $$.Do they still make the USA Scheff by custom order? You had a Scheff and sold it? For shame...
I'm possibly selling my 44-01 that I got off Reverb a few weeks ago. Sadly, I'm just not gelling with it as much as I hoped to. My Duck Dunn is just where it's at for me
I would venture to say it’s the stock pickups, since almost everybody swaps them out. Plus, a 2 soapbar bass is radically different than a straight up P, and a Dunn is hard to beat for sure!
It took me a while to get my 44-01 where I wanted it, but that was with a new pre and pups!

Yeah, I get that they're different beasts... don't get me wrong, I understand why folks dig them so much, it's a fantastic bass.. I just found that I don't need the added eq, or p'up... I get that many benefit from that, but the simplicity of my Duck and Mesa rig just work for me...
I'd rather see the 44-01 get a great home and be used than not get any love at all.
Are those Big Splits or Big Singles? Some of my favorite soapbar pickups there.
Did somebody on here say anything about string alignment problems with Lakin-era Skylines? My 2010 (IDK if that’s Lakin era) Skyline 44-60 has a tiny bit of a string misalignment. Veering ever so slightly to the right (treble side). Was this common?
2010 was the year Lakland was sold. I'm not aware of common string alignment issue with Skylines of either era to be honest.
Sounds like you could fix that by loosening the neck bolts, pulling the neck in the direction needed to fix the alignment and then tightening them up again. This can happen sometimes on basses with bolt on necks.

Big Singles. Shielded control cavity with copper foil. Next to no hum, very quiet.
At the time, I was playing only 5 strings. So, I noticed the Skyline string alignment issue while owning and shopping for 5ers. I tried fixing it on a couple by shifting the neck. Unfortunately, the neck pocket fitment was tight, and the alignment did not correct at all. Turns out that the issue was a bridge that was mounted a few millimeters offcenter. And, it was common enough.
Didn’t take much looking to find an example. This one is not as pronounced as some were, but it’s easy to see.
On that 55-02 I don’t personally think the strings are misaligned too much. I think it’s microscopic, even (not literally).
I’ve seen plenty of US-made 5-string basses (Fender, MM, G&L, Lakland) that look off because the dot inlays aren’t exactly under the A string. I think the dots are the ones off-center.

Just disassembled 2006 JO. As far as I know, these should still have Fralins, right? But Fralins should have cloth wires - it seems some of previous owners changed pickups. Are these Lakland pickups? Lakland pickups I had were always green/red wired, these are red/red..
Any ideas?

In 2006 they should have been Fralins so they were swapped. I'm not sure what they are though.
