The y tuner keys on the 5 was only done on the very very first run so that's as early as you can get. I have only seen maybe 2 LPB Glaubs with a maple neck. You have two beautiful and rare basses!

The added pickguard and swapped preamp are negatives for me but someone might be happy with that. Seems a tad high since there isn't a big market for them but in a normal world where people liked this bass that would probably be about right if it was unmodded. They incorrectly say it's an alder body too but it's ash.
Dan recently just said in an interview that when Bass Player magazine reviewed the original USA Scheff they said it wasn't versatile and overall the review wasn't great. He said that pretty much crippled sales for it right out of the gate. Not versatile is a VERY odd thing to say about that bass.

That fugly pickguard just ruins the look and if you're going to add one it should be where you pick.
I’ve seen that pickguard on several Skyline Scheffs, over the years. Anyone know the source?
That was an original Lakland pickguard design but I think they dropped it pretty quickly. They were made by Jeannie's pickguards. The customer service for that company went downhill fast and then the owner passed away. For awhile his wife was still selling pickguards on ebay but I am not sure if that's the case anymore.
Howdy. I’ve had a 55-01 on my mind for quite some time and I’m ready to try it out. Wish I had one close by that I could test but alas I’m forced to just order one online. What’s the size like vs, say, a jazz bass? I’m kinda in the market for something a bit smaller (body wise) but weight is not an issue.

Well. I’m back in the fold. Again. Picked up a used 2013 Indo DJ5 locally with an Audere three band preamp installed.

And, everytime I get another one I wonder why I ever sold the past 6 or 7... Go figure.
Can anyone refresh my memory, are the red and black wired pickups the Hanson or Aero? I think I recall the black and white lead pickups as Aero but really can't remember for certain.

I emailed Brian at Lakland and he said they were D’Addario Nickel XL’s.
I just received a 55-02 in June, and they are D'Addario strings. Personally not a fan - too much tension for what I'm used to. Changing them out soon for a set of Ernie Balls.
