Yes exactly. The only dpdt switch is active/passive on the HB34, the rest are push/pull.
It's definitely growing on me. I missed out on one of these Ice Blue Metallics before I got this one. The first one had a maple board, which I thought looked awesome.
When this one came available, I had to debate with myself whether to snag it or wait for another maple board to come available. But I decided to grab it. Once I got it, I conditioned the board with some Howard Feed & Wax. It darkened it up a little bit to where it looks a bit more like rosewood. I think this is my only P (P/J actually) that does NOT have a maple board. It just seems to work out to where my Jazzes always seem to have rosewood, and my P's are usually wearing maple. But it sounds good, and I'm liking the light blue/darker board look a lot more than I thought I would.

Maybe this has been asked before here - I CANNOT part with my Skyline 44-02 Dlx, it just sounds too good. But, I've wanted to mess with a short scale since the 34" provides a big reach for my shorter fingers at the lower end. Inquiries to Lakland about conversion to a 32" or 30" have been answered respectfully "no". And, I can understand that. I'm not going to go the luthier route, although that's been suggested. My question is about the Hollowbody 30 (now discontinued, I think). I've seen some like/dislike threads on this model and just posting here to collect experiences with this rig, as I again look to stay in the Lakland family. Thanks in advance.
the 30semihollow is a very good bass. Has a unique tone, similar, but not exactly same as the full-sized HB, which I have owned several. You can still find the 30s around, if you're patient. I've played several, but never pulled the trigger.
I understand your love and loyalty to Lakland and all that, but there really are a number of fantastic short-scale basses being made now by most of the major players. If you would like some feedback from my direct experience on some of those, convo me.

Per JP, they’ve got a short scale 44-75 in the works, would imagine there’d be a skyline version too
Otherwise, if you gotta’ have it right now (we’ve all been there), G&L has a tribute version of their short scale bass.
Also, Jake Serek (of Serek basses) used to work at Lakland, so that’s kind of in the family (the basses of his I’ve played have been very impressive).
Ashdown has a 30" Jazz bass available right now which should in theory be very familiar to someone that likes Lakland basses.
I have some questions. Someone mentioned in another thread that the neck profile on the models have changed in recent years from what they used to be on both the USA and Skyline models. When did that change occur and what type of profile change was it? I am not sure what models it was specific to. I know that the JO neck profile was similar to other 4 string Laklands with a jazz width neck.

It's interesting that my fingers are actually longer on the left hand compared to the right. Especially the little finger that is about a quarter inch longer but no difference on the pointer. I think it's because I started playing bass as a young teen while still growing. So the 35" works for me but if not for that I would want to stay with 34" or less for sure.
The longest stretch I do is the double stops on the RHCPs song Hey. Not Snow(Hey Oh), which is a similar name. Hey requires big stretches to play but has beautiful Lakland 55-94 tone on those double harmony lines. The majority of that song is double stops on bass.

As I just said in the Lakin Basses thread where that was posted, this is the first I've heard of any neck profile changes--never seen anything on TB, Facebook, etc.. I'm genuinely curious about the source of this, when it (allegedly) happened and the details.
Lākland historians: it was alluded to, in Facebook comments, that the Pirrucelli’s were the ones that worked on the introduction of the Skylines. And, I’ve also sort of picked up on hints that they were over the Skyline part of the biz until taking full ownership.

I don't know for sure who spearheaded that project but John was certainly an active lead at Lakland around that time so it's well within the realm of reason.

It seems like the person commenting had a lot of experience with different Laklands but I am with you...never heard of it before...I will write it off as internet rumors for now.
NBD. Just took delivery on one of the B stock LPB Skyline 55-60's. This is only the second 5 string I've ever owned and so far this inexpensive but quality piece checks the boxes. I'm a very happy owner of a U.S.4451m so I'm familiar with the brand's rep and played a few Skylines to know their merit. Weighs a ton lol but I think I'll have fun with it. Find my way around a 5er before "maybe"dropping bigger money on a U.S. model. Here is her heavy self.
I wish they would offer the early 50's styled one with the non-split single as a Skyline. The 50's with split P pickup is already popular with other bass companies but there aren't many affordable basses with the old style precision pickup.

To me, the split P does not look right, or appealing with that pickguard.
