The only nickel string I’ve ever liked are TI J Flats. ProSteels and DR Hi Beams are my preferred rounds.
My preferred Nickel’s are DR Sunbeams. Does anyone know if these would fit strung through the body of a 55-02?
Just did a fretboard treatment on the black 55-94 and put on a new set of Dean Markley Nickel Plated Blue Steel strings on it. I forgot how good they sound when they're not dead. Strung through body.
Treatment was 2000 grit sandpaper to smooth the wood, 0000 steel wool to polish the frets, Orange Oil, Feed n Wax, etc. Super smooth.

I've returned to the Lakland fold. This 44-64 custom P/J was just too pretty; I couldn't resist.

Great job of that song and those Geezers sound fat. I saw Deep Purple play that in New Haven CT in summer of 73 as a very young teen. Went with the members of my very first band and it was the first big band concert I attended. Very memorable!

The GZRs have a nice bite to them, for sure. The previous Neo-Punch were also killer, though

At work so I can't do much but this is a beautiful bass. Feels really great to play. The set up is almost perfect out of the box and the fretwork is the absolute best I've seen on any non-MIA instrument I've ever owned.
So far I'm very glad I went for this. It was between the 55-01 and a brand new EBMM SR5 special which would have cost me over twice the price. I cannot find anything about it yet that would justify me spending that much more for the ray.

Love my 55-01! One of the best mass-produced basses out there!
