Lakland Owners Group #69

I finally found one on the Floyd Rose website. Hopefully it'll work out. I'm loving this bass, if it was a bit lighter I'd say it's just about perfect.

I’m curious about others’ experience with these hybrid vintage hot PJ pickups. They are indeed hot and the magnets are very strong compared to a traditional Fender. The specs have them closer to the strings than a Fender spec and they seem to clip the amp easily. So I played with lowering them 1/64 at a time and found they clean up nicely and get more glassy clarity but do lose some bark.

Does anyone know why they recommend having them so close to the strings, and have the bass and treble side the same distances, when typically you’d have more clearance on the bass side? Are the magnets designed to compensate? Because the pole heights look all the same. I was going to email them but figured I’d spark some convo here. Has anyone played around with these pickups or dissected them?

I will say that the 44-64 PJ custom is a really nice playing bass. Love the neck and the P soloed has a lot of woody bark. I’m totally sold on the versatility of the PJ configuration.

Thanks!
Kevin

Speaking of the PJ Customs being such great basses, this one will be up for grabs later today when I get proper photos. She's killer, with some beautiful grain, she only has to leave because she's being replaced by another PJ that is a bit more "me" cosmetically, lol.

It's hard to picture anyone not bonding with that one cosmetically. I absolutely don't have the money to spend on one, and am already in process of making two more four strings, so I absolutely can't rationalize getting yet another as well...BUT..I looked at that picture and was immediately all "Oooooooh. I want THAT."
