Doug is correct! You’ll love it! I’ve had several US and Skyline J necks on P, PJ, and J basses. They’re among the most comfy in the biz and the tiny frets make them even more enjoyable to play.

I realize mine doesn't really qualify as a Lakland, but it was made by Dan Lakin in early 2020.
Absolutely LOVE it.

She arrived last night and I couldn’t be happier. Set up perfect out of the box. You guys were right about the neck. A little thinner than my 2001 US Jazz. Love the way they finish their necks. And the laurel has a great feel to it. Sounds very resonant acoustically. Plugged into my PF500 it’s warm, growly, and punchy with just a little top end brightness. Took some pics but need better lighting. She’ll be a perfect match to my 55-02.

Like many, I used to think the Skyline series were not Real Lakland’s like the USA versions. After mods of replacing pre and pups, the transformation of this bass has been very eye opening. Our own JJ, AKA, Jedi bass, did some phenomenal work on my 44-01. We decided to replace the nut and some other set up work. WOW! This bass play’s phenomenally. I for one feel fortunate to have someone like JEDI BASS, at our disposal. Thanks JJ! The 44-01 is a diamond in the rough and is a great platform for mods. Mine is essentially like the new 44-os series with the mods that have been done. Thanks again JJ!

Your 44-01 is flat out amazing! The tones you can get with that Z mode switch and those Nordstrand pickups... well... it leaves nothing to be desired! Like I said, you’d be a dummy to change anything or ever sell it! I played it for practically the whole show, over 3 hours of covers from the last 60 years. I went from Dock of the Bay bass tone to the Flea slap tone of Higher Ground, simply by switching that Z mode knob. INCREDIBLE bass!

Hey everyone, I haven’t been active on TB for a while and just starting to check back in. Here are my Laklands, played them quite a bit over the years but not as much lately. Anyway, got the 55-02 out today and it just seemed to come alive, it’s probably close to 20 years old and it just sounded better than ever! I rewarded it with impromptu use on a church gig today!!! It felt great to play it again.

Also curious, been playing mostly P bass lately, anyone seen any 55-64’s around for sale? Cheers!!!

Congrats on having those two! They're beautiful!

As for 55-64s, they're rare and do not often come up for sale. Occasionally, a Skyline LOG (Lakland Owners Group) bass pops up. They were 55-64s, and I believe there are only 30 of them in existence.
