I’m thinking of changing the strings on my 44-01. Do you have a preference for a particular round wound? I use Dunlop nickel brights on my Ibanez but I’m wondering what might suit my Lakland best. It still has its factory strings on it after 3 years.

That's were I'm at with my 44-01.. I'm really leaning towards selling it, because my Duck Dunn just does everything I need it to do...
I've got DR Black Beauties on the 44-01 right now.. they just don't work for that bass... to my ears

What don't you like about you're existing strings...

I can’t really fault them. I just thought I’d try something different to see how it affects the bass. I had it for sale in a shop just before Covid and have only just managed to get it back. Now I’m wondering why I ever thought of selling it (apart from the weight). So I thought new strings were worth experimenting with. It’s a lot cheaper than GASsing for a new bass.

have you tried flats on the bass? it's a serious question.
I like the Labella Flexible Flats. similar to Tis for much less moola.

I have EB cobalts on my P bass. I’d like to keep rounds on this. I don’t think I’ve ever tried DRs.

one more question, is the 44-01 stock as far as pickups and electronics?
if so, and no offense to Lakland, new strings are only going to get you so far.

I get excited every time I have a new set of flatwounds coming my way. TIs, LaBella LTFs Dunlops, EBMM Cobalts... there’s so many and they all sound so different! Pick the right set and they’ll play easier with closer action and no string noise (hand shifting noise).

See... I’m excited just talking about em!

Max’s 44-01 would be in my top 5 gigging basses, if I owned it. I take 2 of my favorites to every gig, and usually rotate them. So, it would be seeing a lot of action!

He’s got Nordy pups and an Audere pre with a Z mode rotary switch that makes the bass a Swiss Army knife. I love it!

Lakland steels or nickels....

Yes it is the current style of case that Lakland is using with a "Lakland" plate between to two latches - lower left in that pic.

Thank you! Love the brown lining. Looks like the old G&L cases. I have a second hand 55-94 but no case. I wonder if Lakland sell cases separately.?
