Lakland Owners Group #69

Whoa, I love that! Please tell us about the pickups and knobs/switches.
Original plans had to change due to a phase issue. So, one switch is not in use. It ended up with a dual output plate, which remedied the phase issue. So, for now the P has a volume only and it’s own output. The lipstick singles have a 3 way selector switch (neck/both/bridge) a volume and a tone running to an output jack.

The lipsticks and switch offer 3 radically different sounds. The P is crazy good on its own! I’m a big fan of Dimarzio P pickups and the Sheehan Relentless is their latest and I love it!

I’ll be able to tell more about it when I run it to two rigs at the same time.

OH MY, WHERE DO I START! That thing is a beast! The lipstick pups alone give a VERY SCHEFF like tone. The neck lipstick pup is super punchy. The bridge lipstick pup is super sweet to me soloed, nice finger style tone. Together the lipsticks nice and scooped. That chrome P pup is so in your face very loud. I’m not a P guy, but if I was that would be the pup for me. NOW, the P and the neck lipstick give a nice Ric tone! Somebody that wants a rock tone played with a pick, this delivers for days! This bass is so versatile just by moving had position while playing, more so than most. Extremely versatile. We had two rigs going, so very different approaches to amplification and cabs.

Thanks for having me over Max, and for letting me use that SWEET Genzler bass array cabinet and Mesa amp! Max’s rig hides nothing! You hear everything the bass gives. My tube-y Streamliner and tweeterless Aggie have a different flavor. Both rigs together, once we got the volumes right, really let the “tractor” shine!

I’ve had several Ricks (vintage to modern). I’ve never played Roundabout, but I was able to play that lick we’ve all heard, using a credit card for a pick... I really think it would fool people!

The neck pickup solo’d gives a little of that 51 style single coil P bass bark that I love, but it’s got much more booty!

The bridge pickup solo’d sounds better to me than a typical jazz bridge pup. Maybe I’m just partial to these Kent Armstrongs???
