Plugged in the DJ AC and fiddled a bit. The neck is absolutely fantastic. If you told me it was a US neck I'd believe it. Mr.Matt did a fine job with the Pedigo neck treatment. It sounds like a J should. (Which also reminds me that I love the ergonomics of a J but not exactly my preferred sound.) This one is definitely a keeper. I have an Audere that never made its way into the BCC LE that I will definitely try out in the AC.

Those non-ACs are really nice basses! I had one "on order" but switched to all fivers all of the time by the time they came in...so mine went to someone else...wish i could remember the sn they set aside for me!

There are some really nice ones in the classifieds at the moment too. Would've loved either blocked JO4 but they were a bit out of my budget. A US DJ even! (Strange it has no blocks?)

yeah...the US DJs have dots. I have never asked why.. BUT UI will try to remember the next time I am down there to ask!

Mark, how do you like the tone of that 55-01? Any pickup switches planned?

Honestly I really haven't had the chance to put it through her paces yet. I hope to soon. I'll post my thoughts and plans as soon as I do.

Not different. J sound always lacks something for me, or maybe has some frequencies I don't like. Not good or bad exactly, just not a tone that seems to work well for me. Maybe it's single coils. Not sure, I've never really chased down the road of pickup swapping. But perhaps I need to find some J shape pickups that don't sound like J pickups

I watched the documentary "Muscle Shoals" (on Netflix) the other night. If you haven't seen it lately or at all, watch it! There is brief Lakland content even (the back of a headstock!) Bassist (and Lakland player) David Hood has been mentioned here before and is one of the most underrated players ever! He's in several scenes and interviews in the movie.

I went to elementary school with David's daughter. Never knew he had created so much music history. I knew he co-owned muscle shoals studio, but that was it...we did a field trip at the then new location. And yeah, his daughter was rocking the Muscle Shoals t-shirt back then too! Lol

I watched it a few weeks ago, it was very good and informative. Another one I like is sound city

I got in some good playing time on the 55-01 over the weekend. The pickups and electronics are okay but nothing to write home about. In a live situation they'd go over fine I'm sure, but I think I'll probably move ahead with my plans to replace the entire electronics package. I'm thinking Nordstrand Big Singles + 3b preamp.

just got the 44-64 skyline for a recording i have to do in a few weeks, i've gotta say i'm impressed, my sometimes temperamental left hand feels great and even my low quality cell phone rough song sketches sound really sweet, also glad i finally have a bass that's as easy to play and as even sounding as my g&l sb-2

I have a set of Chi-Sonics in the parts drawer. I think they're single coils. Not sure I want to go the route to route, although I do love the look of Chis on a DJ!
