That’s right! I have played it and the video does not do it justice. Combinations that he did not comment on sound REALLY GOOD! Very versatile. I’m not a P guy but that relentless pup is what I would use if I was. Great bass JJ.

Words of wisdom from a DJ-4 owner:
It's less bulky than a Jazz, but that is a slight misconception. It helps to think of the DJ as being stretched from the upper horn and the opposite corner diagonally: the body is therefore more slender, but actually slightly longer. It feels much more svelte, but it's still a big hunk of wood, therefore a fundamental weight difference to a Fender Jazz is nonexistent.
However, it still feels much more sleek! The Jazz feels and looks very bulbous in comparison.
The neck is extremely fast. Thin nut, satin finish = easy to get around on. Build quality is top-notch. Neck has no graphite reinforcement on the 4 string models, but mine hasn't shifted in 14 years, so I wouldn't worry too much anyway.
Sound is more aggressive than a Fender Jazz, there seems to be more of a 'growl' to the DJ. Pickups are in the 70s spacing, so it has a more significant mid scoop.
The only downside to the DJ compared to a normal Jazz is that, with the body being so long in comparison, the DJ doesn't fit in all bass cases. Lakland's own soft case tears eventually. Gator softcases fit, Hiscox hard cases too.

Lobster did a great job! There was a lot to remember, and he got most of it right! He’s quickly developed one of the best bass channels on YouTube, and I’ve gotten to know him through this experience, and plan to send him other basses.... super cool dude and friend! He forgot to mention the Rickenbacker sound, and couldn’t do a comparison to his anyways because it has humbuckers (Joe Barden IIRC). But, if you read the video comments, some listeners picked up on it sounding Rick-ish.
It’s funny that some think it was Stu Hamm Urge bass inspired or Sheehan Attitude bass-ish. Neither Bass was even considered during my thought process for the mods. I wanted to try to capture some Scheff sounds and also jumped on the ability to have pickups in the Rick locations, not to mention the ‘70s J bridge pickup and the killer P pickup.

Just picked this up locally.
It's a 2008 DJ4 with J Sonic pickups. The control layout is V/T with P bass knobs and a toggle switch for pickup selection. It's got recessed Dunlop strap locks like my old Warwick.
After I bought it the previous owner told me it was made for Tobin Esperance (Papa Roach) and sure enough I see it was used in their video for Gravity.
I wouldn't pay an extra penny for that but It's kinda cool and I've never seen another one with this control setup.
This thing plays and sounds awesome. I really like these pickups.

Anyone ever put something other than the lakland hum bucker in the bridge position of the 44-94 / 44-02 model?
I literally dreamed about putting in a pair of kloppmann 60's era jazz bass pickups in my 44-94 (understanding it would leave a big hole...) and turning the mid knob into a passive tone control. I woke up and was like "well that was a weird/dumb dream". but now i can't get it out of my head. a bass that plays as good as my 44-94 with some killer passive vintage style j pickups sounds awfully tasty...
wouldn't want to do anything that couldn't be undone though.

Here's my 55-01. She's long since been modified. Ditched the MK1 Pickup and preamps for MK5's and NTMB preamp.

Lākland has made a handful of 44 & 55-94 shaped basses that were passive dual J basses. If you look long enough, you’ll eventually find one for sale somewhere. My Carlo passive dual P has the 44-94 body shape.
Are you a sole proprietor? If you work for a bigger company you should have Work Comp available to you to take care of those bills and such.

I added a Hipshot bass xtender. I checked with Lākland first about the order - ½" Ultralight in Chrome. The whole was tight and I had to sand it a bit to make it fit. The other "issue" is that the shaft is chrome, while the other shafts look aluminum. Not a big deal and barely noticeable. I tried to swap in the original aluminum shaft but it was too short. Surprisingly, my OCD is not bothering me about it. Just curious what others thought of this. Here are some pictures.
