Lakland Owners Group #69

Sorry JJ, I was talking to @Jamvan. I might have tagged you by accident.

I’m sorry you missed out but I’m not sure I’m the guilty party as I bought this one from Brian.

As for the bass, the only blemish I’ve been able to find is a crack in the poly by the heal strap button. Otherwise it looks great. And it plays fast! I may just be used to playing the much wider 5 string basses but the neck is really easy to move around.

I’ve got a Skyline Hollowbody 34 inbound and am looking for some advice re: strings. I posted the below in a separate thread on the Strings forum, but if it’s ok, I’d like to cross-post here for some Lakland/Chi-Sonic focused eyes. If it’s not cool to cross-post, just let me know and I’ll delete. Thanks and I am very much looking forward to becoming a part of this group by the end of the week!

“Basses with Chi-Sonic pickups - favorite strings?

I know this is a question re: a relatively rare bass, but I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for basses with Chi-Sonic pickups?

I’ve got a Chi-Sonic equipped Lakland Skyline HoBo (34-inch) inbound that will have Chromes installed. In the past Chromes haven’t been my favorite string, but I’ll definitely give them a try. I’ve really liked the Cobalt flats I’ve got on a Jazz bass (USA Geddy Lee) and wondered how they’d sound with the Chi-Sonic single-coils. Also have a lightly used set of Sadowsky Blue Label flats that I love on my LB-100, so that’s an option, too.

Any experiences, suggestions are most appreciated. Thx!”

I had a Chi-Sonic equipped Lakland Skyline HoBo. I play flats, different brands seem to suit different basses. I quite liked TI Jazz flats on the HoBo. Great tone and feel - light touch but not floppy. Lesh tone on the neck pickup for days.YMMV.

Flats on a HoBo are where it’s at. You can get them to sound aggressive if you dig in, especially with the Chi’s, but then you get that satisfying thickness out of them without the zing of rounds

I've not been on here in a while. Had a Glaub, sold a Glaub, bought another forever Glaub about three years ago. Whatever happened to MarkusBass? He was popular on here and last posted several years ago. Loved his orange Lakland.

I think Markus and I disappeared around the same time. I texted him a few months ago and he said he hasn't played bass in a while.

He is a very busy man! Was always busy with his design company. Now he’s part owner of new business and rubbing elbows with bunches of celebs... and even MORE busy! I’m so happy for him! He SO deserves success and happiness! Wish he had time for bass though... maybe someday.

Has anyone put the Moollon P pickups in their Glaub? Testimonials? I'm fixated on getting a Moollon and thought maybe a Glaub upgrade might work for now. My 2010 Glaub currently has the Lakland vintage P pickups.

Not I, but I've tried many different P pickups over the years.
There are so many good ones out there, and not all sound exactly the same.
They don't cost a ton of $, so go for it.

Well. I wasn’t shopping for a 55-02, but was looking for a DJ5. But this opportunity popped up late last week and I was smitten. Too cool to pass up. Looks like really nice top quilt on this one too. Should be OTW to me in the next day or so.

Had to get a new strap and some black locks before I could take a centerfold pic of my new GZR. Most sale pics have the saturation pumped way up (incl this one just a teensy bit.) but the purple is much more subdued in real life. I brought up the contrast to bettwr highlight the grain. It’s a good looking bass and plays fast.
