Lakland Owners Group #69

So, I am really curious if anyone in the Lakland family knows what is next if any new offerings will be coming to the Skyline range? Colors, options, etc? I am really wanting a modern jazz option like a DJ5, but with a full on preamp. Not just a J-retro or having it modded for one. I do love the new Satin finishes and roasted necks though. I know they tried the Offset run as well as the AJ55 in Skylines. I love my Laklands and even though I have been experimenting with more options recently I still come back home.

Call em up.. ask!!! LOL!! You never know.. Though I would think active pre's are easier to add or find for the 55 AJs than the DJs for the obvious reasons of the front loaded Jazz design..

I like the ideas, but what's the difference between a J-Retro and a "full on preamp"?

Haha! The simple answer.....right?!?!?! The 55AJ is still a nice bass and wish I would have jumped on one when they were still being produced. I know you can find them used, but it is more rare seems like. I would love to see a 55-60/DJ5 with a 4 knob control plate and a back battery route. Just my personal wishlist for a production skyline. I know I can get a US made with pretty much any options I want.

Here’s a shot of my rig at tonight’s show in RI. First gig with my new 55-AJ!!

Can anyone compare the neck on the Skyline 55-60 to the neck on an older USA 55-94.
I would love to have a Jazz 5er that plays like my old 55-94.
Thanks.

I have a 2010 Skyline 55-60 and a ‘98 55-94 and I’d say the Skyline is about 85% of the US 94. Dimensions are similar but the rolled edges, oiled neck, and fret finish work on the 55-94 is just so dang comfortable and easy to play. I took some light steel wool to the back of my 55-60 to knock the gloss down a little bit and make it less “sticky” but I can feel the fret ends under my hand while I’m playing.

Mind you, the Skyline neck is not bad by any means (my main gigging bass). just noticeable after playing a US model.

Thanks very much. That is exactly the feedback I was looking for.
What is the finish on the neck of the Skyline?
