Been here since the 5th and couldn’t ask for any better weather…aside from the fact we packed for it to be a bit cooler and rainy! We drove through Ennis on our way from Dingle to the Cliffs of Moher. Lots of tour busses in that area so I’m assuming you’re having a good time entertaining them all?

I do bloody love a passive xx-94 shape, here's my US 44-94 (with my upgraded 55-01 slinking in the back):
Love the feel, scale length and general playability of my Vintage J 5-string, but I miss having a bridge humbucker. Considering a 5502... Are the neck profiles and general playing feel about comparable, or are there things to be aware of?
Should be very familiar feel to both of those basses
What Gary said… they should feel very similar. It’s the DJ5 that has a somewhat different neck than the rest of the Lākland 5ers.

As stated .. The DJ5 is the only one with the neck profile that is very different.
Pretty much all skyline 5 string lakelands have the same neck profile.

As others have said they are pretty much the same feel. The DJ5 has a slimmer/thinner feel than the others, but not in a bad way. My 55-02's and 55-94/14's get 95% of my gigs. They are true workhorses!!! Enjoy!

I've got an offer to buy this one. Not local, so I can't test before I buy.
It's allegedly a circa 2007 Skyline with Lakland pickups and an LH3 preamp.
Any general comments regarding the general age range and specs?
I'm not overly picky about tone, but I prefer good top end clarity and attack, and a nice throaty growl in the low end. Something Stingray-ish, but doesn't need to sound exactly like a Ray.
Edit: And does anyone know if there are pickguards available for these? Preferrably that don't require drilling (ie. can be attached with thin double-sided tape). I know some 5502s have pickguards, but not sure which models.

That neck pickup is not stock and probably not made by Lākland.

Love those quilted burst tops!!! I will say though that the neck pup is not the standard 55-02 pup. It could possibly be another Lakland neck pup as they do have traditional single coils for their 55-60 and DJ basses. However, it is NOT stock. With the MM/J configuration you can get growl, silly smooth, and anything in between. I always say this it doesn't replace a Stingray tone (I have a couple MM Stingray's) but it comes pretty damn close. Clarity and attack are definitely there! I cannot answer about pick guards though.....I do know a lot of people add them.
The stock 55-02 electronics (pre and PUs) are magic - either the older Bart setup (my personal fave) or the newer LH/Hanson.
Sorry to be blunt, but I'd recommend staying away from buying one where anything in the original electronics has been modified.

Update with the full story from the seller:
He's travelling this week, and din't have recent photos of the bass. He sent me a photo of the bass as it was when he received it. The pickup had been replaced, and the preamp was of an unknown type.
The current owner has installed Lakland pickups and an LH3 preamp. He's sending updated pics of everything when he gets home, and I'm not making any decisions until then.
So that's the story so far. I'm still probably buying it, if everything looks good from the pictures. The seller has a lot of great feedback on the Norwegian used market, and is knowledgeable when I ask specific questions. As long as the Lakland electronics are installed properly, I don't foresee any issues.
