It's not working.
I've been failing at this every single day since February. Failing heavy and hard.
But John's been appropriately responsive and it looks like she'll be at my doorstep in 2.5 weeks when I get back from a trip abroad.
Epic fail at not thinking about my new bass.

Are the single-pickup 44-64 "Vintage P" Skylines still being produced/are they available? I thought I remembered them being out of production a while back as they are hard to find now, but they're still listed as what seems to be a current model on the Lakland site.

These are impossible to find on the used market and almost nonexistent new. From I understand, the PJ is so overwhelmingly popular that Lakland doesn’t offer many straight P styles for sale.
There’s a dealer on Reverb called Blues City listing them weird and they won’t come up on a search. Search under Lakland P and you’ll find them. Sunburst with laurel fingerboard. This dealer has two in stock right now - I already inquired about both of them and have pictures and weights for both to share if you’re interested. I have no connection to or affiliation with this dealer, just passing on intel I have.

This is really helpful, thanks! So it sounds like they're still being produced as new, just in very small quantities. Unfortunate as I dig the straight P style more, and a lot of the PJs are pretty heavy. Good call on the Reverb dealer, I took a look and it's good to see at least one place selling them new. I also see Reverb dealer "Bass Central" with a Skyline 44-64 "on order" with a semi-reasonable price, for what it's worth.
It's too bad Lakland isn't really producing for this market segment anymore. I'm a huge Lakland fan, but the lack of availability is pushing me more toward something like a Fender Vintera P.
Beaver at Bass Central says he has some coming in the next few months. I’d much rather buy used, but they’re not out there in the used market. It’s actually easier to find US 44-64 straight P Laklands. From what I know of how Lakland operates, they have to order Skylines in batches of 20-30. No onesies and twosies. So they might get a bunch of Sky P basses in and then not order a new batch until the previous batch sells out. That could be a yearlong thing or more. Plus COVID. Sort of an odd situation because there was a time on TB when you couldn’t scroll up even a half page without seeing a nice Skyline P for sale at 800-1000 bucks - and a half-dozen JO and DJ models.

That's some good context there. Makes sense financially for Lakland that they ask dealers to order in bulk, but unfortunate when certain models can't be found for months on end. I'm at least glad that they seem to still be producing the Skyline Glaubs.
But yeah, I'm with you- I'd rather purchase used as well. I can only assume the fact that the classifieds have dried up with Lakies are due to the fact that people are really learning to appreciate them, which is of course awesome. Not sure if it's of any interest you, but there's an awesome Skyline Duck Dunn on the TB classifieds at the moment.
To be clear, Lakland is ordering Skylines from their overseas manufacturer in lots of 20-30. Once they get to Lakland in Chicago, a store/dealer could likely order one or two pieces from that larger lot. Lakland has to commit to that large lot - a dealer does not. This differs from a larger manufacturer like Gibson or Fender, who will require sizable orders regularly for the store to keep their dealership.
Does anyone recall the last skyline jazz bass they have seen on the weekly newsletter? I have been keeping my eyes open for one for probably two years almost and nothing. It’s always 5502’s and pj’s. Seems like they must not sell a lot of jazz shaped objects.

Then your observations are not wrong. I can't recall any 4 string jazz basses in quite some time either.
It is and has the best neck of the bunch. The Chisonics are so hot and bright sounding that I run that one with flat wounds.
Did you buy that one used and is it from about a dozen years ago?
Yeah those Chi's do bark loudly. Mine has the same great setup in 34" scale/ maple board......it DOES sound amazing with flats as well as rounds.......over the years I ended up alternating TI flats with D'Addario nickel rounds.

These are the strings I use on my 55-AJ totally kills!!!
Vacationing in Ireland and just happened to be in Galway just after the kickoff of their Galway International Arts Festival and come upon a funky horn group playing for a crowd on the street. Hearing a fantastic bass line and tone, I worked my way up through the crowd as close as I could get only to be pleasantly surprised at what I saw.
I couldn’t get a clean look at the body but what I saw was lake placid with a tort guard and p pickup. I’ve no idea who the band is or the bass player but they were a lot of fun to listen to and a pleasant surprise.

I bought that one used here on Talk Bass a few years ago. Haven't been playing it as much as I used to as I use the greater variety of tone of the 55-94s with my main band now. According to previous conversations on here iirc it is one of 3 that were made leading up to the 55-94s.
