I've been "Lakland-less" for a while now. I'd like a lightweight 55-14, transparent white ash body, roasted flamed maple neck and fretboard and loaded with Duncans. I'd also take that DJ5 speced above!

I'm down with a new LOG bass. How about a 55-60 with active preamp and a blocked and bound roasted maple neck in some cool custom color? Oh yeah...matching headstock.

All very interesting ideas. Mine would be more conventional. 44-02, I’d be down for roasted ash body and neck, ebony board, twist would be 18 volt John East 3 band Unipre. Natural finish on body. No blocks or binding, not a fan. Have been keeping my eyes open for a 44-02 natural with maple board. Many deluxe with cherry sunburst, but cherry burst is not for me.
I’d be all for this one. As a nod to LOG I, maybe even a butterscotch body.
I also like what used to be called Marcus Orange color.
IIRC the winner in the initial LOG Bass Poll was an orange hollowbody. But when it came time to put your money down it was ousted for the 5564 that became the LOG Bass.
Hey guys, I'm being offered a Lakland DJ-5 in a trade, so I figured to ask you about some info.
At the moment I don't know much about it, which year is it from etc., but I guess that there weren't any major changes during the years.
My main bass at the moment is a Sire Marcus Miller V7, so I'd really appreciate help from someone who owns or owned both basses. I'm mostly interested in the neck shape and feel compared to the Sire, since I'm unable to test the bass myself. I know it's a 35" scale, that's a bit of an issue, since I never played extra long scale, but it's probably not a big deal. It seems to me that the Lakland is a higher class instrument.

Cool idea @basspraiser! I'd say it has to be truly unique; something only an extra special order could get.

Well lots of people seem to love my passive 44-PJ. Think there might be traction in that kinda design. It’s also something they’ve never done as a Skyline.
I’d likely try and make that happen too, would like to have another as a Skyline in a different finish (Charcoal Frost or Racing/Hunter Green anyone?!).
Would work as a 5er too I bet, although I’d be more interested in a 4 I think.

- I’d give the nod to this bass in Charcoal Frost Metallic. What a fantastic idea. It would be unique in the Lakland sphere but still practical, attractive, and usable.I’m not convinced that a lot of players want or need a bass with specs decided upon by committee, but this bass as it is could likely convince people to order. It would be a collectible piece that could feasibly used on a gig. If they can deliver them for less than 10-11 pounds, even better!
I don’t know if challenges presented by covid would take an overseas production run long time to deliver, but this would be a nice project.

Recent Skyline 44-64 models are coming in at 10-11 lbs. with regularity. Doesn’t seem to apply to Skyline 55 models as much.
I’ve heard about dwindling wood supplies and the expense of woods that used to be plentiful and cheap. The US models have premium select top-shelf woods and will make for lighter instruments as a result.
It’s my observation that there’s a weight difference between the 4-94’s and the 55-94’s I attribute some of that to the 5 string neck being a tad heavier. That said there is a significant weight difference in weight between several different 55-94’s it can vary from @8.5 lbs to 9.5 so the body wood varies in weight from one plank to the next.
For a LOG bass... how about a 55-76?

There's a 4476 on Reverb with a Darkstar pickup that I've been drooling over. Good thing its not a 5576 or I would be in deep trouble.
I’ve had a Darkstar equipped 35” scale 4-76 with a Bart preamp. It was Carl Pedigo’s bass. I can tell you that a DS near the bridge and paired with a preamp is not a good combo. Carl had it routed for a MM humbucker as well, and I put a Seymour Duncan in it and brought the bass to life. Wish I’d never sold it.That would be very cool.
