Did you happen to see a nice piece of bookmatched quilted maple ready to be put on a body?

No sir. I was actually kind of surprised at how few instruments were around, and he did the work while I was there, as opposed to dropping it off (although he did it so quickly, while dropping some wisdom on me). One of the Pirruccellos was down there doing something in the CNC machine, but only for a few minutes. It was pretty quiet there overall.

Fellow lakland owners. I need some help to see if something can be done with my 5502:

Can I install a tone knob in my 5502 for passive mode?

Ive seen some stacked knobs on other basses that pull out for passive mode, then the pulled out knob is a tone knob for passive mode. Is this even possible on the 5502, and if so does anyone have any recommendations on how to accomplish this?

I haven't seen this done with the stock LH-3 pre, for the reason that has been stated here in many occasions: the output from the Lakland pickups is so low that nobody uses them in passive mode, unless the battery fails mid-gig. But I've seen 55-02s with other preamps that accommodate that. For example the John East U-Retro (now Uni-Pre). In those cases, the passive tone is usable because it works in active mode as well.

Most of the wiring diagrams I've seen for Bart pre's accommodate a passive tone, but you'd have to drill another hole or find a stacked knob (which do exist- I have a Lull with a bart pre and a stacked mid (boost & cut, with center detent) and tone control).

I don't have the bass any more, I'll take a look and see if I can find any pics of the guts later when I'm home from work.

Is it affecting how it plays, buzzing or causing intonation issues? Or is it just bothering you visually?

I once had Pat Wilkins refret a 55-94. I remember asking Lakland which fretwire they used, but I can't remember from the top of my head. Carl Pedigo in Chicago would be a great choice. But really any good luthier should be capable of doing it.

Yes it is starting to buzz sometimes on the frets that are most worn. I would rather not raise the action much to compensate. As I have two 55-94s plus the gold 5 string I can have one in the shop for maintenance and the show will go on. lol. But I don't want to do it myself. Maybe I'll look for a local SoCal shop that can do it and has the plek machine.

My 44-94 fretless has Barts and I got it with a Bart pre already installed. It has pull for passive with passive tone. I never play it that way.

Here’s some pics I had posted in the Lull thread, hopefully it helps. The top was the tone and did not have a center detent, the bottom was the mid boost/cut, and did have a center detent. The switch was for the mid frequency select.

Matt, this is so funny... When I read your post yesterday saying you had a Lull that had that config, i thought "I have one too". Then you post the pics and I'm thinking "I think I know that grain". I believe that bass is mine now. Sending PM since it's not Lakland content.

Happy owner of skyline 55-60, 55-01, and 55-02. Love these Basses...and I’m trying to find a fretless 55-94. I had one in the late 90’s and regret selling it. Let me know if you’ve seen one ....trying not to go for a newer one.

Hey guys....Thought I would post this...not the best: recording, playing (various instrumental mistakes including me, and a few other issues). well...and the one male singer clearing his throat!!!

But not often we get to play Neil Young in church!

This was for a funeral today and this was "their song"...the guy used to do sound at the church and actually was a very good sound guy....he had to quit when his wife's Alzeimer's started getting bad a few years ago....sadly (or maybe not - shes in a better place and not suffering anymore) she passed last week.

We got one run through ...so not much practice.
