Happy Sunday-a little update regarding the 5501 that I had modded to passive Lace Alumitones. I had previously said the pups had some noise when I wasn't touching the strings/ bridge, but it turns out that was the PJB practice combo I was using at the time. The pups are killer. No noise with my larger GB/Mesa equipment, good output and great tone, both on my own and in the band setting. I am really digging this bass

Yeah, and the black ones are "standard" and carry no upcharge. However, IMHO, the chrome pups play well esthetically with the strings, irrespective of the color of the instrument and remaining hardware. I must reiterate how great and full range the pickups sound to my ear. I have always preferred passive, but they do have me wunnerin' what they could do with a powerful onboard preamp. If I find another suitable 5501 (something used under 9 lbs, preferably cheap due to dings etc), I will definitely repeat this experiment.
These days I have been goin' back and 4th between my DJ5 and the 55 models......the DJ is favored by my fretting hand and the 5594/01 by my plucking hand....and my plucking hand is winning....
so...
I am willing to either sell my 8.5 lb charcoal silver/rw DJ5 or trade it +/- cash for another 55 series Lakie (01,02 or 94 as long as it's under 9 lbs).
Note I have installed a recessed Dunlop straplock receiver in the lower body edge for my belt and a custom blk/white/silver paisley pg... Bass is otherwise stock/pristine. If any of you folks have a 5594 you want to trade down or a 5501/2 you wanna transmogrigy into a DJ5 please let me know for pics.

Sorry for the quick derail, but I have a quick favor to ask of y'all:
I just bought a Lakland Skyline Duck Dunn/44-64 Custom (in a sort of metallic teal color) from GC. I'm not too familiar with Lakland basses outside of playing a 55-02, but have been needing a Precision bass for years and can't stand the thick/wide Fender necks...hence my excitement and purchase of the Lakland DD. However, I've heard some people disparenge the newer pickups in the Skylines and some people praise them. Would you all have any input or thoughts on the newer pups for a Skyline DD/44-64? Oh, and I do intend on putting some 4 year old Lakland Joe Osborn flats on the bass when I get it from GC (currently waiting on the 30 day police hold to expire). Any ideas on how to make this bass thump harder?

- EQ the treble out, check
- after that, its things that take more money, like put in a higher output pickup (SD Quarter Pounders, Aguilar Hot P, or my current favorite, the EMG Geezer pickup).
- and after that, you could put in an East P-Retro preamp, which will allow you with its DEEP setting to destroy small cities.

Just wait until you get it home. There is nothing wrong with the stock Neo's, if that's what it has in it. I replaced my Neo's with Duncan Antiquities mainly because I can't stop tinkering with my gear. The Neo's and flats sound great. The biggest difference compared to the Duncans is that the Duncans are not as modern sounding, but only by a little. I could get the same sound with the Neo's. The difference is VERY subtle.
