I’ve heard that before. I didn’t know if that was still the case since the color of the silk changed. I think they used to be gray (I’m colorblind). They’re red now (I do t have issues seeing red usually).

I was actually surprised at how heavy it is. Probably because my other bass weighs solid 2 more lbs. so when I pick up the DJ it feels like a feather.

Wow, that's a great weight! Mine weighs 9.4 lbs.
Been a little while since I jumped in here. Nothing new gear-wise to report, but my wife and I made a last-minute decision to go see Toad the Wet Sprocket and Verve Pipe.
Oh man. Dean of Toad (and the whole band of couse ) is so awesome. Was loving hearing a couple Lakland 5 strings in the mix. So good. So tight and full! The couple Lakies I own are kind of one-off 34" five strings which are tuned E-high C but this really has me wanting a 35" scale B-G five string!

Dunno what the colors are now but the flats used to have black silks.
#49, for those of you who like the early Laklands (like me)… i had it for about a year, great bass, but I don’t play 4’s, so it was being ignored
. Carl made me that tort ‘guard a few months ago, still has the plastic on it… black UnderCover bag is in excellent shape…
Traded it (and the red Roscoe 6er) towards something new (non-Lakland) which will hopefully arrive one day…

Same here! And a Google search for "show me pics of Lakland USA basses with serial numbers on the backs of their headstocks" didn't work.
Pretty sure soon there will be for sale ads that praise "this is from the golden age with etched serial numbers". Although the new ones are still etched, but laser-etched. But you get my point.

Is the noise single coil hum? I switched the pickups in mine to Nordstrand hum cancelling vintage J pickups. And it’s quiet.
No hum. Just noise, especially when i turn on my living room lights. That always makes my basses noisy, but the lakland is just annoying. I don't think I want to swap out the pups yet, I'm still getting acquainted to this bass and I really quite love its sound. Amazing bottom end, clear open highs.
Can a Luthier do something to shield the electronics or should I invest in a noise gate?
Also, I almost always play in venues that have fantastic FOH and kills any hum or noise anyone's instruments introduce.... so this isn't a huge issue, but I don't like settling for things that I notice, regardless if others don't.
