You might just be able to get the shaft/key from Hipshot- if it's the reverse long stem one, those are custom made for Lakland and not an off the shelf HB1.

Great playing Trigger! sounds fantastic too! loved my 55-02, the sound and action were unmatched. I parted with it to support a gigging friend looking for a dream bass, which led me to pick up a 44-02 deluxe that was available locally as a replacement. Hope you get to enjoy it as much as I did, maybe hold on to it longer

Only time I'm selling this is only if I am getting a custom 55-94 with the colourway I want lol. Really want a trans blue quilted top 55-94 with gold hardware

I would love a Fedora, but in reality a lakland will do.
I did some extra noodling last night A/B testing the new Mule and My DJ4.
After testing, I decided to take my DJ4 off the market.
It's a bit lighter and actually plays better. By better meaning, it felt really natural. The Mule bass I played without a strap on my lap and the neck is really really heavy, compounded with the bottom horn was just short enough that it felt like it was sliding off my leg.
So add trying to keep it upright and solid took a lot of extra work and, I felt after about an hour, I was really straining to reach notes.
Bottom line is, I was really looking to find another unique J style bass to replace the DJ4 and the Mule did not hit the mark.

Lakland has specific basses manufactured for the Asian market from a company in Japan
They are really great basses.
They are often described as the quality between a skyline and a US Lakland.
I have had a chance to play one of them and was very close to purchasing it when I was in Tokyo
It was awesome.
I would say it was in line with US Laklands.
The only reason I didn't buy it was I thought my wife would kill me or maybe sleep by the couch. Both were unacceptable.
Just for clarification you are describing the Shoreline series. Those are made in Japan by ESP. The "Skyline Japan" series is manufactured by ESP but at their factory in China to make a more affordable option. Just like the USA > Skyline series they have the Shoreline > Skyline Japan series. I have never played one of them but I would assume they are on par or lower than the Skyline series that we have (made in Indonesia). I believe the hardware is the same but the pickups are not Lakland pickups. I have been curious about them but not curious enough to drop money on one. Because of the "Japan" on the headstock there is lots of misinformation and people asking higher prices then I would want to pay. I haven't ruled it out.
Is this the Dean Zelinsky Mule? There was a point in time where I was completely lusting after one of those with a Z-glide neck. Kinda happy now that I veered towards the Lakland. You're the only one I've ever come across that got one.
But be careful they are Lakland specific - reversed and also longer stem, aren't they?
I was thinking the same thing. I think the Lakland tuner is a specific design for them. Just email them...Hipshot will help. They are a great company.
It is the Dean Zelinski Mule bass and about 4 days new to me. I'm not totally disappointed in it but you're better off with your Lakland IMHO.
I have to remember the Mule was originally a $649 bass. I'll give my feedback to Dean becuase he said they are doing a second run early next year. They will be way more expensive, according to him.

The -14’s are “classics”, the -94’s are the “US” ones. The -14 serial numbers begin with 44 or 55 as well.
As for the BG/-60 and JO/-64, I usually look at the tuners- if they are Licensed ultralites, then they are Classics. Or if the serial # begins with J4 or P4…

This is awesome, if I were in the market for a 44-14 or -94, I'd jump on this one. It has everything I need.
It depends... My long gone US JO and US DJ both had regular HB1s. By the way, thanks for reminding me, I do have a set of these HB1 reverse tuners I need to unload.
I agree - even for us canuks, a great condition classic or us Lakland under $4K is a rarity!
