Just scored this 55-94 for under $2k from GC with 10% off of used gear deal they have going right now.
Says it is a 55-94 from 2021, though it could be a mislabeled 55-14, they look indistinguishable (to my untrained eye at least). Missing a string, but otherwise looks in excellent condition, film still on the tuners. Have a 45 day return policy and can always return to my local GC, so I just had to pounce on this considering I only payed $100 more than a new 55-02. Coming from Las Vegas so maybe someone just needed some gambling money.
Now, what strings do people like?

It’s a 55-14. You can tell quickly and easily by the large post satin gray import Hipshot tuners. US tuners have small posts.
I suspected it might be a 55-14. Will have to call and negotiate a discount due to false advertising.
Does Lakland have a serial number lookup tool or pattern that can be used to verify the model?
Ah, 14 is a USA classic and 94 is USA series. I get it.

But as @JEDI BASS said, the tuners are quick distinction between the US 94 and the US Classic.
That is how my 44-02 is modded. Except mine has Bartolini Quad coil MM pup and dual coil neck. The East pre really brings something special to the party. So versatile. Really expands tonal possibilities.

I just posted this earlier today. It still is true
The Serial Number sheet is maybe 10 years old, but there is a pattern.
The 55-94s in the US series still follow the 4 digit order. The 55-14s have 6 digit serial numbers that start with "55".
Being a 2021, the number is still etched on the side of the headstock.
Great price for a 55-14. I wouldn't worry about trying a discount. And you still got 10%. Nice score, congrats!

Just for clarification you are describing the Shoreline series. Those are made in Japan by ESP. The "Skyline Japan" series is manufactured by ESP but at their factory in China to make a more affordable option. Just like the USA > Skyline series they have the Shoreline > Skyline Japan series. I have never played one of them but I would assume they are on par or lower than the Skyline series that we have (made in Indonesia). I believe the hardware is the same but the pickups are not Lakland pickups. I have been curious about them but not curious enough to drop money on one. Because of the "Japan" on the headstock there is lots of misinformation and people asking higher prices then I would want to pay. I haven't ruled it out.
To clarify they also have 2 lines...one made in Japan and one made in China.
The Japanese manufactured basses are actually very very nice and the pricing with the conversion rate was very similar to a US Lakland....maybe a little cheaper
After shipping it was just over $2k, but had a $100 gift card, so under 2k out of pocket. It was false advertised by GC being a 55-94 instead of a 55-14, so once I get it and can validate the serial, my wife offered to call GC and try to get a discount (getting discounts or haggling with stores like this is a sport for her, she knows all the buttons to push after working as a manager for Target for several years).
I might not have pulled the trigger if I knew for sure it was a 55-14, but if I can get some money back or even in store credit I won't feel so bad about getting the old bait and switch.
Sub $2k for a 55-14 is still a very good deal. These are great playing basses and retail north of $3200.
