Can anyone clarify for me as I may be mistaken but I thought the 55-14 started out as the 55-94 Classic and that may be why there is some confusion when dealing with these on the used market.
I seem to remember that is the way it went down. the classic and then the XX-14 series were attempts to lower the price point with fewer options in a MIA Lakland. I had a four-string 44-14 for a while and it was a mighty fine instrument, from my recollection.
Although this is from 2013… like they were looking into the future …
Also, from what I remember, the initial ones has USA Hipshot tuners (I don’t know about the bridge) but then they started having the licensed/import ones…

You do you, and I'm not a fan of Guitar Center myself, but I wouldn't say it's false advertisement. It was probably an honest mistake. If we, the Lakland aficionados, still get confused with their model numbers, imagine the average GC employee?

could upload a pic of the electronics/wiring of their USA (or skyline) 44-60 and 44-64? I'm going to overhaul the electronics in both my laklands and am curious to know how the USA models are wired. Really want to make all the cable runs clean.

Yes, their (Lakland) naming structure does leave a bit to be desired…
Yea false advertising is a bit of an exaggeration on my part, and implies malicious intent, and I don’t see that here. Just confusion with the near identical looking basses and near identical model numbers.

I see that serial number 001 is for sale from someone else too. Dan should really take some more photos of that thing.
In that article he is quoted as saying that the electronics in the Skyline instruments are installed in the USA which is not accurate. Not sure if he was bending the truth or quoted wrong.
My understanding is that the Skylines have the same pickups and electronics as the USA basses.

They have not been installed at the USA factory (to the best of my knowledge) since 2008 when they started making their own inhouse pickups. I think that was 2008....maybe 2007....maybe 2009....somewhere around there.
Correct. Other than the -01 series all Skylines have the same electronics as the USA line. They are not installed in the USA though. The electronics are shipped to the plant in Indonesia. One of the biggest reasons for them moving to in-house pickups was the ability to have them installed at the factory vs in the USA which was a HUGE money suck. At the time there was no way (with the companies they were dealing with for pickups) to have them sent over to the overseas factory so they had to install the pickups and electronics here. You can tell the difference in the installation just by comparing the two. Its fairly obvious on the older ones that the wiring was done here. They even had CTS pots and such. Something you won't see in import guitars (usually).
