That is not a 55-94, it's a Skyline Japan SK-5DX. That pickup cover seems to be aftermarket. Where did you find that pic?
What is a Japan SK-5DX? Never heard of that model? I notice the truss rod is different, and also the pickups have a label on them.
No it doesn’t do anything for hum. It does however put unnecessary holes in your guitar that make it worth a lot less when and if you try to sell it.
Hey Gang, just wanted to share - just bought a new 44-OS at a very nice discounted price. I already have the 44-02 deluxe, but I liked the feel and sound of the 44-OS. I prefer my 44-02 sound wise, but the 44-OS felt and sounded different (different electronics of course) and was enticing in other ways. Not to mention, so much lighter. My 44-02 deluxe will remain my most favourite sounding bass - but it is sure nice to have options and experience different Lakies, albeit the familiarities, its just plain fun!
Thanks Teahouse! It stands for Off Set, based on some very slight modifications to the body said to make it more "ergonomic" although I find the differences to be subtle, in the contours of the body. Outside of that, it is basically a supped up 44-01 with an upgraded bart HR 5.4 AP preamp and slightly different off-set body type, topped with a translucent colour scheme and black hardware - has a kind of uniqueness and feels great in the hands. No pictures yet, I couldn't take it home with me (was on my motorcycle), I pick it up next week. Attached is a stock picture.

I just did a quick AB sound test between my new Mule bass and my DJ4.
The Mule is active with double humbucker soapbars.
The DJ4 is passive with Lakland J pups.
Input was my SSL USB audio interface without the "4K" circuit
I knew off the bat these would sound a bit different because of the active vs passive but what I was looking for was noise. I know I complained about the DJ4 noise in the past, however tonight there was none on the DJ4. But The Mule was noisy as heck with and without the boosted treble.
Overall though they both sounded really good to my ears and I can't wait to do some more recording. I would share but I was just noodling and my dog thought it would be fun to jump on my arm while playing.

Nice! I know what you mean it being a different kind of complement to your 44-02. I also have a 44-02 and a VERY SUPPED UP 44-01, pups and pre. These two basses give me so many tonal options. Congrats, anxious to see pics of the 44-OS.

Lakland has specific basses manufactured for the Asian market from a company in Japan
They are really great basses.
They are often described as the quality between a skyline and a US Lakland.
I have had a chance to play one of them and was very close to purchasing it when I was in Tokyo
It was awesome.
I would say it was in line with US Laklands.
The only reason I didn't buy it was I thought my wife would kill me or maybe sleep by the couch. Both were unacceptable.

Man, I'm really loving my 55-02 skyline. I'm a 4 string guy but had the need to get a 5er for the band I'm in. My hands are home with the playability of this awesome bass. One of the best necks in the business! Also blown away by the LH3. Alot of mixed feedback about the LH3, but I'm happy with what I hear at home and live. Here's a quick vid I put together. Plugged straight to my focusrite scarlet solo interface.
