Lakland Owners Group #69

Hi gang,

Planning on purchasing a 55-94 in the coming months. I'm intending on getting a translucent color and a chambered ash body.

Does anybody know if the ash top will be from the same piece of wood as the body? Will the grain match?

Thanks for your insight!

Best to ask Lakland specifically and directly when inquiring/ ordering. That's really the only way to be sure. There'll be a subtle seam visible where the top meets the body.

When I did a great deal of singing in cover bands I had a 66 Fender Jazz Bass. which worked well for that. If I had to do that again I'd simply save up the cash and get a Lakland Hutch Hutchinson short scale.
It's just easier to navigate a fretted bass when singing songs. I can do it with a DB but not with my Lakland 55-94 Lined Fret. Do you suppose they will come out with a Skyline Hutch Hutchinson Short Scale?

I got a clean used 55-02 5 string about a year ago - it is great and I am happy to have it. I want to get a good hardshell case - any suggestions on one that fits a 55-02?

Hi Stedkey, congrats on your 55-02 even if it's been a year ago :). I really liked my Gator TSA ATA case and it was a great fit for my previously owned 55-02, much lighter than my other hardcases too. Here's a link:

Just curious if anyone has purchased a 34" scale 55-94. John showed one on facebook that also appeared here in the TB thread. I'm curious as to what the "up charge" was.
That would be a 54-94 ;)

A couple of years ago it was $200 for my 34" 54-JJ, and they offer a small discount if paid in full upon ordering.. Best to ask Lakland directly by phone.....if you are ordering other options, the bundled upcharge might be less than the sum of individual charges.

I would love to trade this pickguard for one of another color. The gold foil not quite working with this Marty Bell metal flake finish. LolView attachment 5232289
I had a pair of Doc Martins in the 90's that looked like that bass. Glitter fest. Solid bright white would look really good IMHO. Have you called Lakland, I'm sure you could order a new one.

Hey, I’m looking into DI preamps. Not even sure if I need one. I have a 44-02 and a DJ-4. I can see the benefit of using a DI preamp for the passive bass, but for me 44-02, the preamp is built in. Does anyone use a DI preamp with their active Laklands?

Edit: I also have an amp. I understand the value of a DI preamp with no amp. My Fender Rumble 800 has a DI out.
