I have one and I like it alot. The construction is very well thought out and unique, making it one of the more comfortable hollowbody basses to play because of its radiused edges and carved front and back. Mine has the Bartolini's with coil tap. The humbucker mode is dark and thunderous and the single coil mode sweet and clear. It's a very nice bass but so it the Epi JC Signature and Gretsche G 6072. You can't go wrong with any of them.

OK; here's mine:
I've not played a DarkStar equipped version, but I don't need to.
The Bartolini humbuckers are genius in this bass, and the single/dual coil tap option adds a lot of sonic versatility.
I initially ran with flats on it...I do not care for the Lakland flats. Not so much thump, and a papery sounding high end. LaBella 760FL's really bring the thump, and have great high end clarity as well.
I switched to DA XL170 nickel rounds, and I'll never go back to flats. Roll the tone back and play up by the neck to "nearly the same as flats" tone, but open the tone pots up and dig in...wow...she barks real nice like that.
The quality of the parts, finish, and assembly is exemplary.
The satin finished neck si a very nice split between Old School P and J:
1.6" width, and a deep C profile...fast, and deep. Very nice.
Also, I much prefer a 34" scale, and this is...
I had the Epi JC sig bass. One pickup and an impedance selector provided a very limited tone palette: I only liked one setting. Fit and finish were no where near the same quality, and I did have problems with that bass. The knurled nuts that hold the bridge in place pulled out of the body. Gibsons customer service respose: "Yeah, common problem. Clean up the parts, and reset them with elmers wood glue." The binding on the neck came loose in one spot; same response.
Lakland's customer service, when I've needed it, has always been "ship it back, we'll take care of it right away."
I *highly* recommend the Lakland Skyline HB. It's ergonomically excellent, it has many great useful tones, and it's a part of my toolkit I use lots and lots. Exceptional value for your dollar.

Mine's Skyline as well.
Skyline and USA electronics, hardware...even the woods are mostly the same.
So, they're gonna sound the same.
If the USA finish is better, it'd be damn inpressive.

GAS my ass, cure it instead and get one, but do it today. And be sure to get one with the Dark Stars and you'll be in tone heaven immediately. The neck is just perfick between a J and a P width, it is SO comfortable and you are absotively posilutely gonna love the Upright tone when you solo the neck pickup as well as the bite when the bridge pick up is soloed. Oh oh, i almost forgot to mention that there are NO hard body contours whatsoever and a very well balanced instrument. Good luck and welcome to the HoBo jungle. Greetings from Sweden, DoggyD

none, really. just a bit higher quality of woods and sometimes, construction. but remember, every Skyline comes through the american factory to make sure it meets all the same standards as the american line.
p.s. these things kill. great hollowbody sound like you haven't heard in decades! comes just this short of sounding like an upright, too! with Darkstars, you can't resist! it's about the perfect bass for anything for which you'd need a big hollow middy sound. i want one sooooo bad, but don't have any need for that sound.
though, if i had one, i'd use it for everything i do! rock, country, pop, i'd even try and sneak
ninja it into metal!

Yankee: fwiw, I paid $850 for mine from BNW two years ago, with the same case.

It seemed to be just about market value two years ago; I'd expect to add about $100 to that now...
Y'all gave me G.A.S.---now I have a Silver Skyline Hollowbody coming. Found it real cheap for 1/2 off list from a NJ store.
Did you get the one from NJ Guitar and Bass Center in Edison?
I was eyeballing that one.
