If the reverse P is the only difference between this and the Sandbergs, I must have been looking at the wrong Sandbergs.
Eww. I like his new stuff, and have huge respect for Lakland basses, but there is no visual aspect of that bass I find appealing.
What companies like sandberg have done is add cool pickup options to classic basses without ruining the look of those basses.

I was actually referring to the fact that Sandberg are beautiful looking basses, probably my favourites, and lets just say that this particular Lakin bass is not on my favourites list.
Yeah, it reminded me of those as well. I like the "sloppy" metal control plate on these too.
I wish he would come out with a 5 string version of the Jazz basses and make a 4 with 21 frets !!
Except that the Yammy shows much better design aesthetics. Not only is the control plate more compact and slim, but carrying that chrome theme to the pickup surrounds is pure class.
It wouldn't be hard to fix these issues on the Lakie either. Move the jack to the side of the body and you could easily fit 4 knobs on a plate not much bigger than the BB. That would give you a bit more space to make the pickguard a bit more tasteful (or leave it off completely).
It really doesn't take much to put together a video with decent sound. "Sneak peek" is the same as a first impression and that wasn't a good one for me.

Posting on YouTube may be Dan Lakin's way to get out the word cheaply, but the production value regarding sound could have been better. Are the D. Lakin basses sold direct like Sire?
You only get once chance at a first impression. Given how cheap decent audio/video tech is these days, making a video for a musical instrument that has that kind of audio is really surprising. Viral marketing cuts both ways...
Just my opinion. I think Dan deserves more credit and a bit of slack regarding the startup. Second, there is nothing at all visually appealing about a Ray or any of its copies, so a reaction is not carrying much water here.
I agree with you halfway. Lakin probably does not want to blow all of his cash on a startup. I imagine his margins are tight, if he is making any money at all. I know Lakland was not profitable until he started the Skylines.
As for Stingrays not looking good, we just disagree.
That's cool, but I love Sandberg with with the reverse P and the MM pup a touch closer to the bridge. It's only a little thinner sounding than a Stingray.
