Lawnmowers are sky high!

I am feeling pretty silly right now because I looked at Walmart online and that is where all the cheap lawnmowers are hiding! As much time I spend online, I should have looked there first. I guess my age is telling on me because my first instinct is to go look in a store.

On a related note, I picked up a nice cordless Weedwhacker. The long, adjustable handle is very comfortable and it is darn near as good as a lawnmower.

I’m glad I waited. I found a very nice electric lawnmower on close out for $294 (it was $498.) It has a 40v battery and can cut up to half an acre on one charge. That is more than enough for my 1/3 acre lot since I always break it up in segments and cut it over usually three days. It was my good luck that Walmart is actually getting ready for a Christmas display pretty soon (they have a little Halloween stuff out now, but maybe covid killed some of the trick or treat action?)

Five years ago, I paid less than $200 for a basic push mower, now it seems that $800-$400 mowers are the norm. I was not expecting to spend so much.

Buy an electric. Quieter, lighter, easier to use. I got a self-propelled Ryobi because we have a big lawn - 45 to 55 minutes to mow it using a self-propelled mower at top speed, which is a brisk walk.

Two 40V, 6 amp hour batteries mow the whole thing with about 25% capacity left in the second battery. Get the batteries with the mower; they're much cheaper that way and often packaged together.

The days of gas mowers need to be gone. Make it so.
