LDS Build question

OK, so I'm thinking about having LowDown Sound build me a cab. Neo-loaded, 6x10 with a couple of Galaxy drivers for mids.

But. I'm torn between sealed and ported. So I had a thought.

What about having the cab designed to split the size difference between "ideal" size for sealed and "ideal" size for ported, having it built ported, but then acquiring some rubber expansion plugs to seal the ports with, if i wanted to do so?

I know that Trace Elliot did this with some of their 4x10 cabs back in the day, but was it a good/functional idea then? Or was it just a gimmick?

I feel like when you try and get the best of both worlds, you really get the best of neither...just the "ok."

If it were up to me, I'd go with a ported design, I feel that they tend to help the bass frequencies shine through a bit more.
