Lead Guitarist a Weasel...

So I had this idea to start a Pretenders Tribute band, I play Bass. I placed an ad, found a husband and wife duo, (she Sings/ plays guitar, he plays Keys).
She mentioned a Lead Guitar player, someone I had dealings with a cpl yrs ago. To say the least, I wasn't crazy about the idea, he has an Ego and a bad attitude. She asked me to give him a chance, said "He's a good guitarist". I said I'd go with it, but don't be surprised when poop happens.
We had ONE practice and he wanted to start adding songs, get a Band name and logo and create a website.
Long story short, he's retired and has all the available time to learn songs, the rest of us work for a living. We had about a dozen songs down, some good, others not so good and he wanted to keep adding new songs. In the end, I had to push the issue of Quality over Quantity,to no avail, behind my back he was saying that I lack motovation. I said "I'm Done" and walked.
Now I hear that this jerk is trashing me and spreading lies about me. There are times you'd really like to slap someone!

Sounds like this guy and my just now former guitarist should get together and go bowling!

I came on this thread late but just read through all of it. I LOLed a few times. My take:

- Just because someone posts the original Craigslists ad or recruits the 1st members he is not the defacto band leader.
- It may be different for an established band with gigs and a set song list but start up bands need to be open to input from all members as they come aboard.
- You need to be open to adding new songs. There comes a point of diminishing returns, if after 3 or 4 run throughs if a song at rehearsal is not getting the desired results, an additional 3 or 4 run throughs will not make it better. Shelf that song for the night go on to something else and let people work on it on their own time and pick back it up next time.
- If there is a musician you have a history with and have not gotten along with in the past, you will probably not get along with him this time around either.
- husband wife / girlfriend boyfriend / Girlfriend girlfriend teams are not always the most drama causing entity of the group. IME these duos are usually the most focused or goal oriented and the first to be affected by any BS from the other members.
- There is nothing wrong with Tuna Noodle casserole
Old Rocker, since you said you read through all the posts, where did I say that I said or thought that I was the Band Leader?

Hollywood couldn't make this stuff up.
So the recently departed Bass player messaged me the other day to tell me that he got into an "All Night" text war with the drunken Weasel Lead Guitarist.
They went back and forth for hrs and he said that hes not 100% sure but it sounds like the New Bass player is having issues with the Weasel and may already be out....
