Sad thing is... we did get invited to a New Years Eve party this year. The guy who is hosting it is a super nice guy. He actually has a karaoke machine at his home. The guy is the worst singer you've ever met, but one of the most genuine, nice guys ever. He and his wife (in their 50s) are very hospitable and just salt of the Earth. Cousin says that if Johnny (the host) tries to "show him up" or "be the star" he is going to put him in "his place". At his own home, mind you! I asked him what he meant... he told me that he will take the mic from him, and turn of the karaoke machine. SMH
He isnt going to hurt anyone. He honestly doesnt have a violent bone in his body. This weekend was pretty uneventful (thank goodness). We did get into a spat though Sat. night when I asked if he wanted to jam next week (I only asked to piss him off). He said that he is done with bands. He said that he already was successful in bands, and now is a solo singer. I told him he was a karaoke singer. He got a little miffed at that. I just told him he didnt have what it took to hack it in a band any longer. I think this will inspire him to try harder and take music up again, and forget about karaoke. I dont even care if he jams with me or not, but I think it would be a good, healthy outlet for him. This whole karaoke world is warped... full of sociopaths, wanna bes, band rejects, and drunks.
While this thread has been entertaining (funniest thing I've read in ages actually), I know a little about mental illness, and your cousin needs help, and he needs it quickly. I'm guessing you probably know this already, but I can think of at least one serious mental illness for which this guy has text book symptoms. I'm not a doctor, so I'm certainly not going to try and diagnose him, but he does need professional help.
The most worrying part of all your friend's behaviour is that he actually becomes violent over his delusion (and he is delusional). He's going to either hurt someone, or get hurt himself, and end up in a Lock-down Psych Unit. While a stay in mental health unit might actually be the best thing for this guy, let's hope it's not under a forensic order.
If there's anyone who you can enlist (his family, girlfriend) to try and convince this guy to see a Psychiatrist, you should do it. He also could have a non-psychiatric medical problem causing him to act like this. It's unlikely, but it's possible. His behaviour is truly bizarre by any standards.

I don't have time to re-read the thread, but as I recall, PF already noted that cousin was diagnosed by a MHP and prescribed meds.
However, I think there was a mention of him not taking them as he should.:scowl:
So last night we went to the burger joint downtown that has Monday karaoke. I'm not much for going out on Monday nights (or weeknights), but we were just going to eat, and you can imagine my dismay when I saw the KJ setting up his speakers and sound system as we sat down to order our burgers.
It was a pretty uneventful evening. There were a couple college kids there, a couple of the reguular drunks at the bar. There was also a family (about 20 people) having a birthday party for what appeared to be a high school aged kid. While cousin was singing, the staff brought out a birthday cake, and began clapping, and in unison, singing "Happy Birthday" to the birthday boy.
Cousin looked visibly jarred onstage during his rendition of "Reelin' in the Years" by Steely Dan. He got on the mic and yelled, "HEY... STOP THAT SINGING OVER THERE... THIS IS MY GIG.... THIS IS MY TIME.... CANT YOU WAIT TIL IM DONE". The table ignored cousin during his temper tantrum.
Later in the evening, the KJ thought he was having a mild heart attack (although it turned out to be indigestion). There was a former medic in the house, so he went to attend to the KJ. Cousin noticed that the medic guy, attending to the KJ was a former session guy at a local studio, and had some pretty nice connections. He went over to the medic while attending to the KJ, and began asking if he could get some of his connections to come out and watch him sing karaoke. I shook my head, as always. I doubt they will come. The KJ is ok though.
Come on, now you're just making it up (Still funny though!)

I spoke to the owner today at lunch, I saw him out and about. I suggested he name a burger after my cousin.
