Learning to play bass

Hey, I should clarify. Right now she's playing through a
Behringer BX-1800 w/15" and a Zoom B2 multi box. Got it
for her 'cause it has a built in drum machine and tons of good
FX. I have the A2 for acoustic guitar and it's awesome.

Hope it's not a problem, I'm letting her post with my account,
'cause she's completely new to internet forums. I'm looking at
either the Hartke 350 combo with tube pre and 4x10 or Ampeg 300 watt combo for her. I'm a guitarist, what do I know?

Thanks for helping her out, I need a bass player!:bassist:

I use the Hartke 350/410 combo at my church. It sounds great and gets decent volume. The down side is it's a royal pain to move around :) P.S. Take the training wheels off, she's a big girl now and can handle her own account :)

Hi!

The only thing cooler than a woman who plays video games is a woman who plays drums, and the only thing cooler than that is a woman who plays bass.

If I was in the market for a combo amp I would almost certainly get a Fender Bassman 250/210 Combo Amp.

Congratulations on picking up the best instrument ever.

p.s. None of this is IMHO. It's all fact. ;)

Great googly moogly, a bass playin' wife. You guy's will stay happy with music in the mix. My wife plays keyboards, and we jam together, but she's too skeerd to play with my band. Maybe someday. As for an amp, let her check a bunch out, and see what fits. Best luck to you both.

I'd asked some questions on buying a bass for her and got a
good playing MIM Jazz bass. I had an SX bass that needs a
setup something awful, she'd been playing with that. Since
she has really gotten into it and is taking lessons, I have to
start thinking ahead and get her good equipment from the
start. I went cheap when I started playing guitar and wish I
hadn't. I learned the amp is arguably more important than
the instrument itself. Once she feels comfortable posting on
this thread, I'll have her setup her own user account.

I spend a lot of time on HCEG, so be nice to her.;)

Hi,

I am unperson's wife and just started learning to play bass a month ago. I have a Fender Jazz Bass and would love to get a gig worthy amp. Any suggestions would be appreciated! :hyper:

Welcome to both bassdom and talkbass. You'll need a name of your own, we can't just call you UnPerson's Wife or UPW for short. That's kinda rude - you are, after all, a person and not someone's' possession!

The amp you need depends on many factors not the least of which is weight. You need something you can womanhandle around unaided. Size of the rooms you intend to play governs the size of the speakers you'll need plus the power of the amp. I think a 2x10 would be good for a start. I went with Acme B2s (I have a total of four). These weigh about 50 pounds each and I usually use two. Others will recommend other cabinets that may be lighter. Once I found the Acmes I stopped looking at other makes.

May I wish you well for the future.

Paul

Thanks for your good wishes and help... I'll be checking in often while I learn to play this awesome instrument.

Much better and may I say? - such a lovely name. The only real advice I would like to offer a new player is LEARN TO READ! It's important! When I bought my first bass in 1962. I took it to my music teacher and asked him to teach me how to play. He burst out laughing and told me it was a "bastard" instrument and would never last! Here I am forty six years later taking piano lessons to learn how to read. <sigh> It's making my old brain box ache!
