learning to play multiple instruments

hey anthony,

Since you play multiple instruments, I'm wondering what is your perspective as an instructor of someone learning 2 instruments simultaneously? Let's assume the person has little technical and musical proficiency on both instruments and the instruments are guitar and bass.

What would you see as a pro and con in this situation?

Thanks!

Hey Jusca,

Everyone's capacity to learn and retain information is different.

For me, I like being able to see music 3 ways: the symmetrical, overlapping layout of the bass, the linear layout of the piano and in a 'non-instrument specific' kind of way.

I do most of my composing on piano. I don't feel that I have enough harmonic information available to me on bass. And most bass compositions I hear are just 'riff' grooves.

The great thing about being knowledgeable is that it transfers equally to every instrument.

peace,
anthony
