Leaving case candy on while playing?

I was in the Bahamas recently. When you enter Nassau from the cruise port, you're made to walk through this building which features garbage for sale, restrooms, etc. In the center of this building is a stage where natives play that insanely cliche island music.

Anyways, I was checking out the bassist. He was playing a Yamaha TRB5. Looking at his onboard EQ, I noticed he still had the plastic card that goes around the knobs, which labels the EQ knobs.

You guys ever play with your case candy or tags on your bass?

Nope. I even removed (gasp!) the bar code from the back of my Stingray Classic 5

No, it all goes within minutes of deciding that I don't need to return an instrument.

I still remember a band from college that were playing all new Carvin guitars and basses with the tags and everything still on the instruments. It was a battle of the bands and they wanted new instruments for the show. They returned them right after the show. So if I see anyone with case candy on their instruments, I think of that or the lady that doesn't cut the tags off of he dress so she can return it after the party.

I saw the same thing in a youtube video of zack wylde playing outside a music store the whole band except for zack was playing new gear with pricetags and stickers all over them

It's unusual to leave the card on, I wouldn't do it, but I don't see a problem with it (shrug).

I leave the plastic on the PG and back cover until I am positive that I am going to keep it.

Not sure why people leave things like stickers (RIC and Fender Made in USA) on their basses long term. YMMV but to me it is weird.

I leave the stickers on when I buy a new car, just to show how much money I threw down to purchase that puppy!

I even removed the tiny stickers on the neck plate (one had a CE symbol...you know, European Community, and the other one a recycling/trash can symbol). About 1/2" wide and 1/4" tall. Out...I like my bass clean.

I bought a P bass that had a white pickguard. When I took off the sticker (upon purchase) it had clearly yellowed while on display leaving a ghost outline of the sticker. Had to swap the pickguard immediately.

Fortunately black and tort looks a damn sight more handsome than black and yellowed white with a pseudo tramp-stamp.

I'm in the same boat, but I can't bring myself to change the guard, I tried (blue tort, red tort), but ultimately I'd prefer to keep the "marked" guard on.

Ditto. All that stuff comes off the moment I decide a bass is a keeper.

I would imagine the guy playing is the same type of guy who leaves the stickers on his ball caps too, I could see that style going to bass. I personally wouldn't, although I leave my pickguard protective sticker on as long as possible.

HA! Me too... although I gather that some EBMM players consider this sacrilege!
