Leaving school for a national tour

Why not prepare?

That's just like planning two seperate ways: One way if I get a good salary job, and the other if I don't get it.

If I dont make this band or something arises, option one is school.
If I DO make this band and tour, will I have to tutor, or what?

So, this band is willing to take on a 14 year old, provide a chaperone and a tutor......and they found you on craigslist......and you know your "modes and scales".........

Well my school is pretty freakin ridiculous.

9 days out you fail your semester = no credits.
Head down on your desk once = no chair in clas
Head down twice = 3 day suspension

You get the drift.


I know the members and the manager. I met them through my guitarist, as his dad is friends with them. We were all together at one point.

Uh, I said nothing about a chaperone. They didn't offer me a tutor. I'm going to have to find one myself.

Yes, they found me on craigslist, yes I know my scales & modes.

and I'm doing geometry homework right now.

You do know that a minor touring with adults will need a chaperone, right? You do know that no touring band is ignorant enough to take on a MINOR.....right?

You do know it's at least worth the chance, RIGHT?
I've learned before that some things, actually are true, while most are not.
As long as you're not screwing yourself, there's no reason not to try it.

And of course, I would have to go on this tour to be able to make my decision.

In order to be worth a chance, you have to have a chance. You don't.

This will be over the summer, then I'll be able to decide on tutoring and whatnot.
Worst case scenario, if it's a bust, the rest of my summer is boring, then I go back to school.

Go discuss this with your parents. They should be educating you on these things, not us.

You're going to be real dissappointed if you think you actually have a chance at this gig. I'm guessing playing your modes and scales won't be part of the audition.

At best, they are humoring you.

I would say go for it but there is a lot of important stuff to consider. I'm 17 as of tommorrow and I'm not that good of a student. I would go for it because if all else fails I would go to the alternative school in my area. If you have a 4.0 though I would probally lean towards the staying in school.

I say do not do it. No offense intended, but in my opinion a 14 year old probably does not belong on the road. There are too many hazards. As a Dad and a bassist I would not let you go if you were my son. Now, the caveat is if you are some sort of phenom, and the band is a really well known band and there was serious money involved.

Yes but anyone can learn them, and the fact that a 14 year old knows them is not impressive enough at all to make someone say 'We should have him in our band!'

Not to mention that plenty of touring musicians probably don't know anything about music theory.

O, and, if your touring with these adults on their national tour, do you really think they're gonna have you constructing your own bass lines? You'll be playing their songs, and their lines.

And, What grade are you in? I'm gonna keep asking till you say.

I'm a freshman, taking:

Already got my Algebra Credit so I'm taking right now:

Geometry Honors
Computers (College Credit. Acing with a 99)
Art I (98)
English I Honors (94)

As stated in previous posts, i'm not going to throw out my education.

14. Probably 8th grade.

Jarhead, go find some musicians your own age. Start a band. Practice in the garage. Play a teen night, or some silly teenager party. Stay in school. *****-slap your parents for ever allowing you to consider this foolishness.
