Leaving school for a national tour

Nope, after about the third post I stopped taking him seriously. I understand securing your future, but he's either..

1.) trolling
2.) Not paying attention
3.) Not thinking it through

I'd like to think he's not reading me clearly and isn't even considering that i've posted many times that my education comes first. He's focusing way too much on the negatives.

why would this thread be closed? I'm asking a question to gain insight if I get lucky enough. I want to be as educated in this choice as I can before I make my decision. I have 9 months anyways.

It sucks having older people tell you that you are too young to chase your dreams. Reality is, THEY ARE USUALLY RIGHT.

As a fellow N.C. musician, I had a chance at 16 to go on 'tour' backing an 'up and coming' country artist. I would have had to quit my job and hit the road in 2 months. I had it all planed out and my family pulled the plug. I was absolutely irate.

The band did find another bassist. However the singer was dropped by the record label after 2 weeks on tour, and all of the members in the band lost their meal ticket and wound up right back here. They either had no job, or had to beg for their old ones back.

Now, as a financially stable 23 year old, I play in several high-end cover bands in the Charlotte N.C. area, and honestly I do make good money at it. I have offers to go on 'tour' all the time still, but if it is not a group WITH record label support and guaranteed money every night/week then I decline.

The band you are looking to join seems okay. But they have no record deal, no label support, and it looks to me they are just playing bars around NC and from experience, n original band doesn't make alot of money doing that.

Bottom line here, you are young, apparently talented, and have a future ahead. Old people suck when they tell you you aren't old enough to do what you want, but friend, they are probably right :)

Stay in school & keep practicing....the Music will come to YOU​

No, sweetie. If you go on tour with a band, and get a tutor to keep you legal, you are not taking your education seriously.

I'm trying to interject a little logic in your life. I'm sure you're a smart kid, but you lack the common sense that comes with life experience.

This will end badly for you, son. I'm sorry in advance.

I see what you're saying. But as of now I have no job. School is my job, you could say.

This tour will be in the summer, and then I will make my decision. If they have label support and the like, then definitely yes.

But if they don't, I may lean more towards the no side.

During the summer i have on worry for a job or any of the like, so then we have a chance to see where it goes. If it goes nowhere amazing, then no.

I'm not risking my entire future over the summer. Once the year starts, yes. But for the time allotted, no.

Thor, i'm pretty much seeing that here already.

1.) I make a claim
2.) There's something questionable about me. (here being my age.)
3.) Claim is false.

Now I don't make false claims, so it won't be logical reasoning that you're using.

jarrhead---even if you pass the audition, there may not be a tour by summer, which is a long way away. or your position could be lost 2 days prior due to politics. thats the
music business... but i hope it works out.

guy--you are either a jerk or jealous. really mean stuff.

Yeah, I wasn't trying to be negative btw, I just know how it feels to wanna get out there and show the world what you can do. Just be careful man, there's alot of greedy people and ugly things that you see gigging around here.

I've always been the youngest in every band I've played in too, it can be a drag sometimes huh?

What I'm saying is that at our school, your classes are normal, and the select few who are considered gifted by our school district are in classes a year to two years ahead of normal. And we ace them. Stop acting like because your in the classes you are in, that leaving school to be in a band is a good idea. Even in my classes, I would not leave school to be in a band that probably won't go anywhere except for this one tour.

Also, this shouldn't even be the point. I know good things happen to people, but this band of adults playing with a 14 year old at bars and around the country will involve way more things than you are thinking of. Unless you are the only one trying out, a 14 year old who 'knows his scales and modes' is going to be their last choice. Even they, they'd probably just keep looking.

But I guess in the op you recognize that you might not make the band. I guess if
I were you I would try out, but not do it. I would like to see if they would except me, but not want to do it.

I'm not saying it's a good idea to leave. Nor am I saying it's bad, as I simply don't know.

Point is, I can take care of my education.

But, the truth can go many different ways.
